Marilyn F. Porter, 78

Marilyn Florence Porter, 78, passed away June 5, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County – Mt. Joy.  A native of Lancaster County, Marilyn graduated from McCaskey High School in 1949 and was a member of the National Honor Society.  In 1952, she received her RN at Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing where she was president of her class.

Marilyn married her elementary school sweetheart, Capt. Robert Porter, USN (Ret), in 1952 and left Lancaster for 26 years of selfless service as a Navy wife and mother of four children; Karen, David, Barbara and Bob.  She moved the family all over the country, living in California, Washington, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Maine, Maryland and several other states. In addition, she lived in Norway for two years and had the opportunity to travel around Europe. After Bob retired to Lancaster in 1980, she worked with him on a rental business spending many hours at the computer keeping things organized.

Returning to her many friends from school, she enjoyed getting together and sharing stories of past and present. Marilyn wanted to extend her best wishes to all her good friends in the “Lunch Bunch” group of high school and nursing alumni. She enjoyed the friendship very much.  Her crowning achievement however, was as grandmother to nine beautiful grandchildren; Lindsy, Rayna, Zach, Vic, Luke, David, Abby, Lauren, and Ryan.  She will also be missed by her two sisters in the Lancaster area and their extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Charles Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 1:30PM with Rev. Robert Hoover officiating.  Friends and family will be received at the Funeral Home from 12:30 – 1:30 PM on Sunday  Marilyn will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Lancaster County. To send online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com
