Malda Raber, 79

November 04, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, nana, and friend, Malda (“Mickey”) Podell Raber, who passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2024. Born in New York City, Mickey was the only child of the late Claudia and Jules Podell, the owner of the iconic Copacabana Nightclub.

Mickey is survived by her children: Jama Podell-Vitale (Thomas) of Summit, NJ; Danielle Mitchell of Charlotte, NC; and Benjamin Proler (Helena) of Lancaster, PA. Her cherished grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nana,” include Claudia and Luca Vitale, Madison Mitchell, and Zachary and Dominick Proler. She is also survived by her loyal cat, Gracie May.

In addition to her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Raber. Although adopted at birth, Mickey was joyfully reunited with her sister, Shlomit, and brothers, Mitchell and Warren, later in life.

Having grown up in New York City, Mickey moved to Lancaster, PA, where she resided for over 50 years. She was an avid traveler and loved relaxing by the beach with a book. She enjoyed bingo, casino games, and especially the Wheel of Fortune slot machines, but her greatest passion was her love for animals.

In her later years, Mickey became a published author, writing The Copa: Jules Podell and the Hottest Club North of Havana, a book about her father’s legendary club. Known for her vibrant spirit and unfiltered sense of humor, Mickey lit up every gathering and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She will be truly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Humane League of Lancaster, Pet Pantry or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM on Friday December 27, 2024 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family and friends will be received from 10AM until the time of service.

Condolences to the Family

We are so sorry we could not attend the celebration of Mickey’s life today due to illness. Mickey was one of the most amazing women I have had the pleasure of knowing. I loved spending time with her and listening to her stories. She was so much fun to be around!  We got to know each other through the American Heart Association and our friendship continued over the years. We celebrate her life with you and hope that the memory of her beautiful life brings you peace.  – Love, Terry & Doug Kraft and Anna Boyle

Dear Jama, Daniele, Ben and family….
I’m justin shock that Malda isn’t here.  Just saw her recently and she was fine.  She was so proud of all of you, rightly so. So many stories we can all tell.
