M. Margaret Herzer, 95

M. Margaret Herzer, 95, of Luther Care passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Ada (Bushong) and Lloyd C. Smith. She was the beloved wife to the late Robert “Bob” G. Herzer, whom passed in 2019. Together they celebrated over 69 years of marriage.
Margaret graduated from Lititz High School in 1948. She worked at the Lititz Record Express for 10 years. Prior to retirement in 1992, she was employed by various dentists in the Lititz area: the late Charles Eshelman, the late Steven Palkovic and Dr. David Richards for over 16 years.
Margaret was a member of Lititz Moravian Church. She served two terms as president of the Women’s Fellowship (Moravian Women) and was a leader of Circle 1 Bible Study. She was a former member of Dieners and a member of the Men’s and Women’s Bible Class. She enjoyed baking Moravian Sugar Cakes for her family and friends. Margaret was a volunteer at Moravian Manor. She received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1998. In 2007, she was recognized for 20 years of volunteering. She was also a member of the Lamplighters Association and served a corresponding secretary. She was a former member of the
Lititz Women’s Club. She also volunteered at the Lititz Welcome Center.
Margaret enjoyed hiking, camping, word searches and family activities. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. While at Luther Acres she volunteered in the Health Care Unit delivering mail and assisting at the First Friday ice cream socials. Margaret had a collection of miniature tea sets and commemorative spoons from various vacations. She also had a collection of ornamental and wooden block Lititz Springs Park memorabilia.
Margaret is survived by her children Kent G. of Lancaster, Karl R. of Mount Joy, Kurt B. husband of Susan (Supplee) of Ephrata and Kevin L. of Elizabethtown; 5 grandchildren: Karyn wife of Daniel Fetzer, Troy Herzer, Kyle Herzer husband of Abby (Harnly), Zachary Herzer husband of Melyssa (Hamm) and Dylan Herzer; and 8 great-grandchildren: Skylar, Brooks, Michah, Evelyn, Amelia, Dean, Fallon, and Cole Herzer. She was preceded in death by her 4 siblings: Ruth (Smith) Bomberger, George Smith, Theodore Smith, and John H. Smith.
