Lois Shaffer Reed, 95

Lois Shaffer Reed, 95, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Born in Kreamer, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marie (Gordon) and Williard N. Shaffer. She was the beloved wife of Thomas R. Reed with whom she was married for 72 years.

Lois was a dedicated student and professional. She graduated from high school in 1946, obtained her RN from Geisinger in 1950, and continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania and Cedar Crest College, where she earned her BSN. Before retiring, Lois served as an Industrial Nurse at Bethlehem Plant of Bethlehem Steel Corporation. For 50 years, Lois participated in the Harvard Nurses Study.

After Lois moved to Willow Valley North, she had vegetable and flower gardens. Summer would find her at her gardens- working them until dark- then harvesting the vegetables, etc., bring them home, clean them and put them out for the residents to enjoy.

Lois also enjoyed traveling. She visited Europe several times with the Garen Club. In addition, she did trailer camping to Nova Scotia, Key West and the Poconos. Lois enjoyed oil painting; the paintings are displayed in the apartment.

Surviving besides her husband is her daughter, Beth (Richard) Auman. She is also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jennifer Lundquist (Matthew) of Maryland and Lynn Fuhrman (Brandon) of York, as well as her great-grandchildren: Oliver Thomas (Lundquist), Lucy Annabel (Lundquist), and Zain Richard (Fuhrman). In addition, Lois is survived by daughter-in-law Jeanie and 2 grandchildren, Andy and Sydney. Lois was preceded in death by her son, Bruce and one of twin babies with Beth. Baby B survived 12 hours.
