Kimberly Furry

July 14, 2021

Kimberly Furry took flight from Modesto California in the autumn of 1971, wings feathered in kindness and beauty. At an early age she moved with her family to Lancaster Pennsylvania, which she continued to call home for most of her life. She honed her innate artistic abilities at the University of Delaware, where she hosted epic but civilized parties (and earned a BS in Visual Communications to boot). She had an exquisite ability to compose images and transform the mundane into the sublime. This ability transcended photography: it permeated all aspects of her life. Her work was to advocate for others and champion righteous causes. She found the good in everyone and sang it from the rooftops. She built teams, both personally and professionally.

Over the years her flock grew to include an all-star cast of family, friends, and critters, all drawn to the deep warmth of her tender heart. She served humor dry and with a twist. She preferred laughter to tears, but would often indulge in both simultaneously.

The arc of her life was strong and true, generous, and warm. She found magic in a snowflake and marveled at the moon. Her legacy is kindness and beauty. She will be dearly missed and with us always. Kimberly Furry took flight again, from Lititz Pennsylvania on July 14, 2021.

She is survived by her husband Dan Wiegand; her mother Christine Furry; her brother Justin Furry, his wife Libby, and their children Anya and Asher; parents-in-law Gerard and Rosemary Wiegand; sister-in-law Teresa Ashba and her husband Scott; sister-in-law Molly Miller, her husband Artie, and their children Hanna Miller and Katie Ritchey; brother-in-law Timothy Wiegand; sister-in-law Kathleen Derusha, her husband David, and their children Madeline and Abigale; sister-in-law Erin Murr, her husband Paul, and their children Paul and Sam; her Aunt Jean and Uncle Bill Dickinson; numerous dear-to-her heart cousins; and countless friends.

The small man
Builds cages for everyone
He
Knows.
While the sage,
Who has to duck his head
When the moon is low,
Keeps dropping keys all night long
For the
Beautiful
Rowdy
Prisoners.

~Hafiz

Kim,
Thank you for dropping keys.
Don’t forget to duck.

Aunt (rhymes with Jaunt) Kimmie

You were lost
You are found
This was all a long ride on a merry-go-round
We kept going around in circles
And we got dizzier and dizzier
But when the ride ended
We didn’t realize it would end like this
We thought we would get off
without a worry and that it wouldn’t
end in such a hurry

And the horses are our hearts
Our oh so heavy hearts
As their weight forces their hooves
to the ground like shattered glass
So you were lost
But you are found
And we know you’re dancing up in
the clouds

~Anya Furry, age 12

I’m sorry that my silly puddy from Acadia is no longer here when I saw that she passed away from Facebook and never heard that she passed away, it made me sad that one of my favorite people passed away….we had such a special connection and I remember once getting upset and she gave me a hug even though she was an introvert…I enjoyed getting to know her through interviewing her and doing her plants in Horticulture group and many other memories that I’ll never forget I enjoyed her husband Danny he was a really nice guy I always think about her and her family especially her parents

Kim was my bestest friend in Nitrauer Elementary School. I have so many fun memories with her and we shared so many laughs. We had reconnected when she stopped in at Thoms Bread years ago & we found out we lived in the same neighborhood. She was beautiful inside & out & she will be truely missed. My condolences to her family & all that had the honor of knowing Kim.

I spent years working with Kim every Wednesday. I would give anything to have one more Wednesday with her. Just to sit across from her and hear her laugh or even her frustrations. I learned so much. She was an anomaly in that she saw things differently, struck me differently than anyone I have ever met. She was one of the bravest people I have ever known and truly was an advocate in so many ways for what is right and true. I miss her. This obituary was beautifully written. There is so much love pouring from the words. “Sorry for your loss” doesn’t capture her immense spirit so instead I’ll say, “Thank you for sharing this beautiful human with me. I am grateful for the time that we had.”
