Karl Janouschek, 91

Karl Janouschek, 91, of Millersville, passed away at home on Monday, October 11, 2010, with his family by his side.

He was the husband of the late Paula Sawzczyn Janouschek, who passed away on July 12, 2009. Born in the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia, he was the son of the late Jacob and Maria Geier Janouschek.

Karl had worked as a maintenance superintendent for the Morton Chemical Co. in Ringwood IL for 9 years, as well as other companies over the years.

Conscripted into the German Luftwaffe in World War II, he served as a flight engineer on a bomber. He was taken prisoner after landing in Romania and sent to a Russian Gulag in Siberia, where he survived for 7 years before being released. He became a citizen of Austria after his release and later immigrated to the United States with his wife in the early 1950s.

He was of the Christian faith.

Karl is survived by his daughter Christine Janouschek, married to Timothy C. Martin of Millersville; his son Peter Paul Janouschek of Youngtown, AZ and his 3 grandchildren Jacob Christian, Luke Aaron and Daniel Mathias.
