Joseph S. Eckman, 95

Joseph S. Eckman, 95, died at his Gordonville home on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 after a battle with skin cancer. Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Samuel J. and Maude L. Philips Eckman, and husband of Catherine J. Mellinger Eckman for 76 years.
He worked on a farm when younger and then as a jewel assembler for Hamilton Watch Company. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. A good man, he liked to reminisce and was a great storyteller. Joe was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Surviving Joe in addition to his wife Catherine are their son James L. Eckman (Cathy) of Strasburg, daughter Margaret J. Myers of New Holland; 4 grandchildren: Marilee Down, Patrick Eckman, Erica Eckman and Joseph Scotten; and 10 great-grandchildren: Desmond, Dylan, Elise, Keligh, Olivia, Evan Gavon, Michael, Monica and Travis. His grandchildren Larry W. Scotten and Tammy L. Hoffard and his sister Margaret Moore preceded Joe in death.
Visitation: 10-11 AM and Funeral: 11 AM, Thursday, Jan. 18th at St. John’s U.M. Church, 3001 Lincoln Hwy East, Paradise, PA 17562, with Rev. Eugen Errickson officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

Prayers are with the family on their loss of Joe.  He was a “hunting buddy” from Buck Hollow Camp in Shunk, PA as was his son Jim.  RIP Joe and happy hunting.
