John J. “Jack” Wood, Sr., 88

John J. Wood, Sr., “Jack”, 88, a resident of Brethren Village, Lititz, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Arthur and Catherine (Treston) Wood. Jack was the loving husband of the late Anne Hilary (Lynn) Wood, and together they shared 58 years of marriage at the time of her passing in May, 2009.
Jack worked as a truck driver for the Ellis Coffee Company, from where he retired in 1999 after 35 years of service. He and his wife loved traveling and going to the shore. Jack was an avid and faithful Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Eagles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster, and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at Lancaster General Hospital.
A devoted father and grandfather, Jack is survived by two sons, John J. Wood, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Lancaster, and Stephen Wood and his wife Lori of Newtown, PA.; two daughters, Marian Higgins and her husband Louis of Newtown, PA.; and Anita Lynch and her husband Deacon Timothy Lynch of Chalfont, PA.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Charles Wood and his wife Mary of Philadelphia. In addition to his parents and wife, John was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Brethren Village and Hospice and Community Care for the care received by Jack at both facilities.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Monday, January 14th, at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. The Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM. Family and friends will also be received from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, January 15th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA, 17601, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dan Powell as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack’s memory may be offered to the St. John Neumann Capital Campaign (which includes the relocation of St. Anne School) 601 E. Delp Road , Lancaster, PA, 17601
