John C. Greider, 58

John C. Greider, 58, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, June 1st, 2018 due to metastatic melanoma. He was born in Lancaster and was the son of Elizabeth J. “Betty” (Wenger) and Martin H. Greider, of Lancaster.
John graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1977. A member of CV’s rifle team, John was the leading scorer his senior year.
After CV graduation he moved to a family farm in Oregon helping his aunt and uncle with their rye grass seeding operation. There, they sold the grass seed to golf courses around the country. He returned home and took up a career building fire and ladder trucks.
John was an Aerial & Wiring Specialist for Spartan Motors Inc., formerly known as American LaFrance, Conestoga Products and Ladder Towers, in Akron, PA. John retired recently due to his illness after 30 years of loyal and skillful dedication with Spartan.
Snow, water, and cars were John’s passion. He enjoyed car racing, car shows, water skiing, and boat racing on the Conestoga, Pequea, Susquehanna, and Delaware Valley waterways. He was a member of the Pigeon Hill Snowmobile Club, Hanover, PA and the Delaware Valley Boating Association.
Surviving in addition to his parents; sister, Mary E. Henning, wife of Carl, Lansdowne, PA, brother, George W., Harrisburg, PA, niece, Elizabeth A. Henning, Narberth, PA, nephew, Paul A. Tunis, husband of Jessica, Pittsburgh, PA, brother in law, Frank Tunis, Lancaster, aunt Susan M. (Wenger) Smucker, Oregon, uncle Kenneth H. Greider, husband of Anne, Conestoga, PA, and a host of cousins and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Martin H., Jr. and sister, Suzanne L. Tunis.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 10th, 2018 at 2PM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 414 E. King St. Lancaster, PA 17602. A time of gathering and luncheon will be held following the memorial. A private interment will be held on the Greider plot at Stehman Memorial UMC, Greenfield Cemetery, Millersville, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute Fund mail to Lancaster General Health Foundation 609 N. Cherry St. Lancaster, PA 17602 or to Hospice & Community Care 685 Good Dr. Lancaster, PA 17604.
