Joan Ellen MacMillan, 77
February 28, 2025
Joan Ellen MacMillan, 77, of Lititz, formerly Wyckoff, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Legend of Lititz.
Born in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James Buryl and Marion May (Graham) Hackler. She was the loving wife of the late Bruce Arthur MacMillan.
Joan dedicated many years of her life working as a bookkeeper for the Christian Health Care Center until her retirement in 2013. A longtime member of Ramapo Valley Baptist Church in Oakland, NJ, Joan lived her faith through service. She often described herself as a “professional volunteer” volunteering her time to the Wyckoff Public Schools and numerous church committees. Her generosity and kindness touched the lives of many. Joan had a passion for antiquing and found joy in hosting tea parties. But above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family, who brought her the greatest happiness.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Art) Paynter; her daughter-in-law, Katie MacMillan-Losinger; her sisters, May (Bernie) Tanis, Barbara Parmeland, and Ann Hackler; her grandchildren, Zach MacMillan, Emily Paynter, Kelsie MacMillan, and AJ Paynter; her close friend, Steve Handy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce MacMillan; and her son, Mark MacMillan.
Friends and family will be received from 2PM to 3PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory. 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 3PM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Cure Alliance at: www.thejdca.org or to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, 2102 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Joan was one of my bridesmaids when I got married in 1963 – the Graham(Hackler) cousin I was closest to in those early years. We had a lot of fun as kids when the family gathered, and the memories were always full of laughter – and lots of good things to eat! My love to her family. Cousin Janet Graham

Joan was always so kind, generous and compassionate to me and my family. I grew up not just knowing, but also feeling her love and support. She cheered me on in my victories, and supported and comforted me when i stumbled. I will miss her smile and warmth.

Aunt Joan was a shining light to me as a young child. I remember many family get togethers I attended with my grandparents Mary and Gurnsey Hackler as well as with my Aunt Marion and Aunt Louise ☺️blessed again to see her many years later in my 30’s and lastly in 2019 she surprised me in Cape May while visiting there. she was always so kind and loving and I’m so sorry to hear of her passing 🙏. I’m looking forward to attending her service. Sending love to all of my family. Love, Bethany Hackler

Joan was a lovely lady and one of the strongest ladies I knew. I met her through our Thunderbird Club and we became friends. We had a lot of fun times on trips and car cruises we took. I will miss her🥲 We talked a couple of times a month and always talked about her sisters, how she was proud of her Grandchildren, she loved her son-in-law and especially loved her daughter Barb. Joan my are with you, may you rest in peace friend. My prayers are with Barb and her whole family 🙏🙏🙏
