Obituaries

Jeffrey Alan Maddow, 75

May 31, 2017

Jeffrey Alan Maddow of Lancaster passed away at the Homestead Village Apostles Center for Care on May 31, 2017, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Jeff was born on July 20, 1941, in New York City (Manhattan), the only child of the late Benjamin D. Maddow and Marjorie (Kistler) Maddow.

Jeff graduated from Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School, Kingston, PA, earned an AB in Accounting degree from Franklin & Marshall College; and an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University. At F&M, Jeff was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and post-graduation he participated on reunion committees for his class (1963).

Jeff was a C.P.A. and was C.E.O. and C.F.O. of a number of companies, both national and international. After retirement Jeff volunteered his business expertise and knowledge with SCORE, where he was a much sought-after counselor.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 54 years Ellen Lawrence Maddow. They met when Jeff was a student at F&M and Ellen was a nursing student at Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. They were married at St. James Episcopal Church on November 21, 1962. Together they had traveled extensively world-wide and spent much time in their favorite American West, especially Arizona, Wyoming and Montana, He is also survived by a son, Dr. Charles L. Maddow, daughter-in-law Debra S. Maddow and grandson Ethan, all of Houston, TX.

The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the Apostle Center for Care, the nursing staff, activities staff, auxiliary staff and all others who gave Jeff the most wonderful and personal care. They became a “second family” to us during Jeff’s residence there. A heart-felt thank you and God bless to all of you-you truly are Angels.

A graveside remembrance will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at noon at the mausoleum at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster, PA 17603. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations can be made to the Apostles Center for Care at Homestead Village, P.O. Box 3227, Lancaster, PA 17604.

To Jeff’s family and friends; We at Bond Caster and Wheel Corporation are grateful for having had the chance to work with Jeff through SCORE for many years. On all occasions the interactions with Jeff were cordial, helpful and encouraging. He was humble yet had very strong business acumen and was gracious to share his experience and knowledge. Many of us have recommended SCORE as a result of working with Jeff. There is nothing more valuable to this world than those who are humble and can move people to action. We will always be grateful for his guidance. The Bond Family of Companies, Manheim PA

Dear Ellen and family,
I am so sorry.  During special times of difficulty one of the greatest comforts is to know that others care about you.  You are in my thoughts.
Love,

Hi Ellen, just saw on Lancaster Online that Jeff had passed. I’m so sorry. Did you expect this at this time? We don’t get the weekly paper so I wouldn’t have known except for the obituaries on Lancaster Online. I didn’t know Jeff that well, but he seemed like such a nice guy. I’m sure it’s hard on you and Charles. It’s something we all have to face in life. We never look forward to it. If their is anything I can do let me know. Sincerely, Greg Albright

Sorry for your loss.  Jeff was a great ‘swim buddy’ in Homestead Village aquatic classes.

I met Jeff at SCORE and soon learned that we both worked for Price Waterhouse in the mid sixties and knew fellow associates at PW.  Later I was honored to Co Counsel with Jeff and we car pooled to our client.  I was always impressed by his accomplishments and experience.  He was missed at SCORE and will certainly be missed by “Spike” and family.
