James R. Harrigan, 87

James R. Harrigan, 87, of Lancaster, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Patrick and Bella (Donaghy) Harrigan. James was the husband of the late Mary Lou (Stauter) Harrigan, with whom he had been married for 29 years when she died in 1990.
In 1946, James joined the Navy, and proudly served his country at the conclusion of World War II. James worked as a machine operator for Federal Mogul, Lancaster until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Rainmakers and belonged to various veterans’ organizations in Lancaster. He loved to fish and play poker, and enjoyed camping and outdoor activities. But most of all, James loved his family.
He is survived by three daughters: Debra Levengood, of Millersville; Patricia A. Harrigan, of Quarryville; and Kathleen Harrigan, of Quarryville. He is survived by his grandchildren: Neal Harrigan, who also was his caregiver for the past 5 years; Dana Ketner, Randilynn Harnish, wife of Steven, and April, Jessica, Bella, and Laura Harrigan. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. James was also preceded in death by his son, James “Bo” C. Harrigan.
Funeral Services for James will be private and at the convenience of the family.
