“Sarge”
James “Jim” R. Matthews, Jr., 74, of Millersville, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late Evelyn (Stauffer) and James R. Matthews, Sr. He was the loving husband to Diane (Snyder) Matthews for almost 56 years.
Prior to retirement, Jim worked at Armstrong World Industries for over 32 years. Jim enjoyed camping and fishing. He and Diane loved to travel. They visited many places but rarely the same place twice. Some of their favorite destinations included Alaska, Hawaii and Wildwood, NJ. Jim loved to attend Harrisburg Heat soccer matches and also cheer his grandchildren on at their sporting events. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a jokester from the word go. Most of all he treasured spending time with his family. His sense of humor and good nature will be missed by all including his extended brotherhood.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Dori Goshert (Bobby) of Millersville, and Chele Elliott (Shawn) of Columbia; his grandchildren: Danielle (Shaun), Chad (Kate), Shay and Kena; his great-grandchildren: Austin and Cade, with his newest grandson Landon making his debut in November; his sister Dawn Smeltz of Landisville; brother Michael Matthews of Willow Street as well as 2 nieces Lisa and Tawny.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers: Gregory Matthews and Thomas Chandler as well as his fur babies Bo and Rock.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 12PM-4PM at the Millersville VFW, 219 Walnut Hill Rd, Millersville, PA 17551.
Please dress casual.
