Mr. Ziogas was my 7th grade social studies teacher. I loved that he wanted his students to interpret Socrates’ motto, “Know thyself.” He actually cared what we thought. He taught us how to reflect on important people and events and how to organize our thoughts both in discussion and through essays. He inspired me to become a social studies teacher. My daughters also benefited from his inspirational teaching methods. He was generous with his wide knowledge and with his kindness. He was a true gift to the teaching profession and to the Etown community. Condolences to his family.

Mr Z was my favorite teacher in middle school. He taught my father as well and he lived right down the street from me. He always called my dad Ebie when he was in school so he called me Ebie Jr. He always had a funny story to share or he wants to shake you hand to grind your knuckles. He was my most cherished teacher and I will never forget him. Many prayers to the family for your loss of a great man.

To Mr Z’s family, He was a wonderful social studies teacher. I was in his class I believe in 1986! And decades later, my parents were friends with Mr Z in the E-town stamp club. Just a few years ago, after my parents moved down to Georgia to move in with my family, he sent us some dahlia tubers for our garden. Some of which are in bloom again this year. He made everyone smile and was a good friend to people of all ages. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Helen, Antonia, Harry, Melissa and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I was privileged to have him as my social studies teacher, and to have all of you as our wonderful neighbors when we lived on Hummelstown Street. I have fond memories of him working in the garden and digging up the tubers from those spectacular dahliais in the fall! He was a lovely man who, throughout his teaching career, had a positive and lasting influence on his many students. I send my deepest condolences and hold you all in my heart. Much love ….

I have so many memories of Mr. Ziogas and his wife coming into Weis when I worked there from 2004-2012. He would grab the newspaper and stand at the customer service desk and quiz us all. He would tell us stories of his years in teaching and growing up. I looked forward to their weekly shopping trip. He always had a joke, taught us Greek, had something sarcastic to say, and never left without words of advice or guidance. What a treasure he was.

Jim was a long time customer and he called me”The Great One”. I have years of conversations and laughs when he came to drop his clothes. And he occasionally liked to correct and point out proper English..lol. I was unable to see him since Covid and my heart breaks over not having a few more memories with him. Rest in peace Mr. Z. You will be greatly missed.
