Irene Marie Cassel, 90

Irene Marie Cassel, 90, of Myerstown, PA, and formerly of Hopeland, PA, passed away at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, PA on Friday, September 5, 2025.
She was born in Reading, PA, the daughter of the late Albert and Louella (Mull) Rhodes. Irene shared almost 52 years of marriage with her husband Henry M. Cassel, Sr. before his passing in 2006.
Irene worked as a shoe skiver for the former Badorf Shoe Company in Lititz and part-time at the former Milestone Restaurant in Ephrata. She was a very strong and hard-working lady. Irene enjoyed meeting her fellow retirees from Badorf for lunch.
She was a member of Lititz Church of the Brethren. Irene enjoyed taking trips with her friends to the beach, casinos, Washington, DC, and Nashville. She went on long walks, and played 500 Rummy and Hoss and Pepper cards games. Irene loved her dog, Cookie.
Irene’s family includes her daughters, Debra A. Mentzer of Myerstown and Diane L., wife of Greg Garner of Lititz; 5 grandchildren, Michelle Cassel, Dale Mentzer, Jennifer Hoover (Josh), Ashley Schaeffer, and Josh Garner (Janelle); 9 great-grandchildren, Kurt Knoll, Austin Mentzer, Sierra Millinder, Tanamera Hoover, Trevor Howe, Tyler Eitnier, Peyton Garner, Neil Schaeffer, and Casey Garner; and her great-great-grandson, Noah Eitnier.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her son, Henry “Hub” M. Cassel, Jr. in 2011, her infant son Jeffrey Cassel, and several siblings.
A viewing will take place from 10 to 11 am, followed by the funeral at 11 am with The Rev. Jim Grossnickle-Batterton officiating, of Friday, September 12, 2025, at Spacht-Snyder Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 127 S. Broad Street, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be in Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron, PA.

Condolences to the Family

Sorry for your loss. Irene was a very caring lady. I had the pleasure of getting to know her when I lived with her daughter Deb and family. Her sailing face was the last thing I saw at the end of my long days. I continued to converse through out the years with her daughter. We joked about playing cards and our combined interests with watching young and restless and bold and beautiful. She made me laugh
She will make others laugh in a more heavenly place. She has now earned those angel wings. R.I.P. Candi Yinger
