Obituary

Henry (Hank) W. Fischer, 78, of Millersville, Pennsylvania, died Friday, January 30, 2026. Hank was born on November 7, 1947, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the son of Henry and Mary Fischer.

Hank graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a double major in Sociology & Secondary Education (and minors in Psychology & Philosopohy). He later earned an M.Ed. equivalent at Millersville University. He went on to earn an M.A & then a PhD in Sociology at the University of Delaware. He was a high school sociology teacher at FJ. P. McCaskey High School, then a University professor first at Mount Union University in Ohio, then he returned to his alma mater, Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He loved teaching, doing his research with respect to disaster response, and publishing his findings. He always pushed for change, not appreciated by all yet he enjoyed it no matter what.

Hank met his wife to be, Donna L. McCabe (who became Donna M. Fischer) while a student at Millersville University. They married in 1971 and later had two wonderful daughters, Elizabeth (Betsy) who now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jennifer, (married to Michael McKenzie) who resides in Elizabethtown.

Hank loved to hike, camp, kayak, garden, read and spend summertime in Maine with his wife and daughters. He loved to make fish chowder with his wife after catching white perch (his wife taught him how to catch, clean and cook them). He hiked almost every trail in Acadia National Park.

Hank is predeceased by his wife Donna M. Fischer (married 54 years). He is survived by both daughters, Elizabeth/Betsy and Jennifer, his step-granddaughter Isabelle McKenzie, his brother Brad Fischer, sister Mary Kay Fair (married to Pat Fair), nephew Michael Fischer (married to Alexandra Slanker) and sister-in-law, Kathy J. McKenzie.

Hank's family will celebrate his life at a future time in Maine. Please, no cards, flowers, etc.
