Harlan H. Hoover, 81

Harlan H. Hoover, 81, of Gordonville, passed away on Monday September 17, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital after contracting West Nile virus. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late V. Emanuel and Edith (Heller) Hoover, and the husband of Janice M. (Rohrer) Hoover, with whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage in October.

He was a 1954 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite School. After being employed by Norman L. Graham, Builder, for 46 years, he was a self-employed contractor until his death.

Harlan volunteered his knowledge and skills over the years at many places, including Global Aid Ministries, The Factory Ministries, and the Pequea Valley Public Library. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served on the building and property committees, was an usher, and was involved with the facility maintenance. He served on the Leacock Township Planning Commission for many years, most of them as chairman. He enjoyed both hands-on and management of all sorts of construction projects.

Harlan’s grandchildren were a special source of joy for him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Jon, husband of Jacqueline (Schmid), Nottingham, England; daughter Jill, wife of Robert Heine, New Holland; grandchildren Mark, Yasmin, Carissa, and Kayla; brother L. Eugene (Marilyn), and sisters Sharyn (Mahlon) Habecker, and Rhoda (Elias) Jabbour.

A Memorial service will take place on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until 1:55 PM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Global Aid Network, 2001 West Plano Parkway, Suite 200, Plano, TX 75075 or The Factory Ministries 3293 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, PA 17562.
