Gwen A. Foltz, 64

July 10, 2017

Gwen A. Foltz (Shoemaker), 64, of Reinholds, PA passed away on the evening of Monday, July 10, 2017. She was born in Butler, PA to the late John W. & Shirley Shoemaker and over the years resided in both Berks and Lancaster County.

We know many of you have spent your afternoons or evenings enjoying her gift of cooking, creativity, and joyful hospitality at the Foltz Pottery Shop which she owned with her surviving, and unconditionally loving husband, Ned Foltz.

Gwen brought a tremendous amount of joy and happiness to everyone she met. Her life’s purpose was to serve others in unexpected ways. She never asked if she could help someone, she just did it, and did it graciously and beyond expectation. Her gift for service and wonderful creativity filled our bellies full of delicious food, our walls full of beautiful art, our cupboards full of special cards, our memories full of precious stories, and our hearts full of her selfless love and encouraging words.

In addition to her husband Ned, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Drew & Linda Shoemaker; brother, Devon Shoemaker; sisters-in-law Donna Hackman & Patsy Garman; step-daughter Gina Foltz; nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own: Annie Shoemaker, Joe Shoemaker, Sam Shoemaker, Megan Shoemaker (wife of Sam), Luke Shoemaker, Trisha Shoemaker (wife of Luke) and their son Wesley Shoemaker. She also leaves behind many of Ned’s nieces and nephews all of whom she loved. Last, but absolutely not least, Gwen’s spirit is carried on by countless friends, many who were also loved like family. She would want you all to carry on by loving one another in unexpected ways.

To remember the life and love of Gwen, we warmly invite all her family and friends to a memorial celebration service at 11AM, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz, PA 17543. Following the service, a luncheon will be served. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 14 from 6pm-8pm at Spacht-Snyder Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 127 S. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Lititz Moravian Church at www.lititzmoravian.org or the Foltz Folklife Foundation at www.foltzfolklife.org/giving.

Dearest Ned, I was so sorry to learn of Gwen’s passing. Heaven must have been in need of a Special Angel, because Gwen was indeed an angel. Always kind, gentle, welcoming and pure of heart. She had a way of making everyone feel important. I have so many memories of your wonderful open houses at the schoolhouse and what a gourmet! She was “Martha” before Martha! My home is full of “Ned and Gwen” redware, a daily source of enjoyment. God bless you Ned and hope your heart will mend in time. I lost Frank 10 years ago and it can still be a challenge. My sincerest sympathies to you and your family. Deany Cameron Mt Penn, Pa.

My deepest condolences to Ned and family.  Gwen was a special spirit that you meet once and never forget because she makes you feel like an old friend or family.  I was blessed to meet her through her friendship with Annie Giblin and she always made me and my children feel so welcome.  She always had a smile and I’ll never forget her infectious laugh.  God bless her on her journey home and warm wishes to all her family for comfort and healing.
With great sympathy,
Brigid Byrnes

My heart goes out to Ned & to all of Gwen’s family. This is indeed a great loss…Gwen will always remain a part of so many lives…as I write this I am looking at her artwork, a lovely seascape on wood. Ned—I love you and please know you are in my thoughts. I will see you on Friday. Much love to all, Cathy Johnston

Ned, I was so sorry to hear about Gwen. I will always remember coming to your pottery studio and seeing all the food that she had made for everyone that was there to see your pottery. It was always a pleasure to talk with her. Gwen was a very nice and kind person, a trait that all of us should surely continue in our own lives.
sincerely,
Nancy Ament Boyer
