Gust H. Dimitris, Jr., 90
Gust H. Dimitris, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He almost made it to his 91st birthday!
“Gus” was born in Lancaster, PA and was the son the late Gust H. Dimitris, Sr and Catherine (Groff) Dimitris. He was the loving husband of Shirley A. (Homsher) Dimitris for 62 years before her passing in June of 2014.
His early jobs included working as a shoeshine boy and pruning tress for an orchard. He retired from General Cigar Co. / Brown & Williamson in 1996. Retirement jobs included cleaning Fidelity Color in Brownstown and moving cars at Manheim Auto Auction.
Gus was a member of Trinity E.C. Church in Lititz, and a former member of Grace E.C. Church in Lancaster where he served as head usher for 30 years.
He loved being with family and friends, enjoyed food, was a good father and a fun Grandpa and Pop-Pop. Gus enjoyed going to Williams Grove with his father “back in the day” and more recently with his family. He drove a motorcycle when he was young and owned a 1955 Chevy Nomad.
Gus lived in Lancaster City all his life, until he and Shirley built their house in 1984 in Akron, PA. He remained there until failing health prompted his move to Fairmount Home in Ephrata, PA. Gus enjoyed his Fairmount family – he attended most of the activities there, handed out candy to the staff, joked around with anyone who would listen, and loved the wonderful meals they prepared.
He is survived by 4 children: Peggy A. Koller of West York; Tina M. Bicksler (Dennis) of Lititz; Gust H. Dimitris, III of Lancaster; and Scott D. Dimitris (Michelle) of Denver, PA. 8 grandchildren: Nathan (Kaitlin) Koller, Stephanie (Jason) Carzola, Kristen (Aaron) Rutter, Andrew (Lauren) Bicksler; Michele (Ben) Moline, Amber (Keith) McGuigan, Cole Dimitris and Sophia Dimitris. 16 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Bicksler, Hosanna Bicksler, Hollyann Carzola, Riley Koller, Noah Bicksler, Marin Carzola, Cash Walters, Shalah Bicksler, Kalan McGuigan, Ava Rutter, Addie Rutter, Elilin Koller, Korbin Rutter, Benson Moline, Athena Koller and Theodore Moline. Gus is survived by his 2 youngest siblings – Henry Dimitris and Mary Dimitris. He was predeceased in death by his parents, his wife, and 8 siblings (listed alphabetically) George, Grace, Harold, Helen, James, Richard, Robert and William.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Trinity E. C. Church, 44 E. Orange St., Lititz, PA 17543. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the time of the service. A private burial was held on a different date.
