George Kenna Overly, 95
January 27, 2024
George K. Overly, 95, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on January 27, 2024. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Hostetter) Overly. He was married 68 wonderful years to the late Mildred “Millie” Overly, prior to her passing in 2022.
George was a graduate of Millersville Normal School. Soon after, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. After his discharge from the military, he began working for RCA as a pipe fitter for 42 years. After his retirement, George couldn’t sit still and decided to work part time at John Herr’s Village Market from 1990 until just two weeks ago. George also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening vegetables, and woodworking. His family affectionately remembers him as a jack-of-all-trades and a work ethic that could impress anyone. George also enjoyed reading Civil War books and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #496 in Millersville.
George is survived by his 3 children: Sheila Neff (Randy), Mark Overly (Patty), and Lisa Campbell (Tom); 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, niece Jody Hanson, and nephew Doug Stoner. He was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Stoner.
George will be laid to rest with his wife, Millie, privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s name can be made to Providence Place Senior Living of Lancaster, 1380 Elm Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Our deepest sympathy on the loss of George. George spent many-many years here at John Herr’s and will be missed by many; both customers and employees and as the saying goes “we lost another good one”. I was a pleasure to have him here every week.

Please accept our sympathy on the death of your Father. I, Ron worked with your father for 26 years in aisle 3. He was the one that trained me on the proper way to put the products on the shelf. Your father was a very kind man that showed concern for co-workers and customers.
Aisle3 will never be the same for me working without George
