George Gorey, 67
October 08, 2025
George Gorey, 67, of Sinking Springs, passed away on October 8, 2025.
Born on July 13, 1958, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late James and Phyllis Gorey.
After graduating high school, George built a successful career in sales. Known for his knowledge and genuine care for customers, he spent 19 years at Lowe’s as a plumbing specialist, where he became a customer favorite for his expertise, patience, and thoroughness.
Outside of work, George enjoyed spending time at the shooting range and had a special talent for giving thoughtful gifts—so much so that he dedicated an entire room to them. His grandchildren would fondly say, “Pop loves to shop”. He also had an interest in politics and enjoyed keeping up with current events.
George is survived by his daughter, Rachael Moon (Josiah); his beloved grandchildren, Evelyn, Miles, and Theresa, all of Mount Joy; his brother, James Gorey (Pamela ); and his sister, Nancy Smyth (Ward).
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

I was so sad to see the news about George and I am very sorry for your loss. I was a high school friend of Nancy, who introduced me to George. While George and I enjoyed some movies and ice cream together, I mostly remember the proms together. George was always a gentleman and quite the dancer! We had such a nice time at George’s senior prom that I invited him to my senior prom a few years later. I have very special memories of those proms and just wanted to share how special he made me feel. He was that kind of person. I hope he is dancing in heaven!!

I had the privilege of working with George from day 1 at Lowe’s. He was the kind of guy that would always step in to help. Even after I left that store and came back 6 years later, we picked up right where we left off. I can say for a fact that when he got sick, it shook the entire store. Then when he passed, it was like part of the store was missing.
Rest easy George! We have this! See you on the other side!!

I’ve been texting with a lot of people who were so positively impacted by George. We are reminiscing about all the church youth group trips and the warm laughter he brought into so many lives.
