Gareth G. “Gary” Long, 85

Gareth G. “Gary” Long, 85, formerly of Lititz, passed away at his East Hempfield Twp. Home on Thursday, March 12, 2020. He was born in Rothsville to the late Henry F. and Miriam Irene (Grube) Long. Gary celebrated 45 years of marriage with his wife Susan (Thompson) Long last August 31st.
He served in the US Army at Fort MacArthur, CA from 1957 to 1959, and then in the Army Reserves until 1963. Gary was an over the road truck driver for ServiceStar Corporation for 27 years retiring in 1992. Gary then drove cars for Faulkner Oldsmobile Chevrolet for 15 years.
Gary owned a few racing horses, and was most successful with “The Whistler” in 1993 at Penn National Race Course. He loved baseball and more recently cheered for the Nationals. Gary travelled to all 50 United States.
In addition his wife Susan, Gary is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Behrle (David), of Mohnton, Michele Follweiler of Tappahannock, VA; two step-daughters, Karen Mellinger of Tujunga, CA and Janelle Landau of Lebanon, NJ; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Sidney Long (Peggy) of Lititz, Larry Long (Elizabeth) of Lititz, Randy Long (Audrey) of Catawissa and Celeste Hoffman (Barry) of Ephrata.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandson Joshua Bagans and his sister Lynette Brubaker.
