Ed was the last of the weekend warriors of Lancaster. As a joke we called him Master Bates. Knew him when he lived with Jim and Mary on Sherman Street. He was the perfect weekend warrior: Friday night, some beer, waiting for the stuff. He would disappear to Hawaii periodically, a place he loved.

I worked at RR Donnelley and partied with Ed back in the 70’s. Good guy, his father bought a bar on Manor Street and named it “Bates’s Bar”, spent many a morning into afternoon there after third shift. Crazy times, we needed to unwind from work though. As time goes by we somehow become more responsible and mature. Sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to his friends and relatives.

Ed was a dear and close friend to my Aunt Deb & Uncle Rick. I grew up with Ed “Head” being part of the family. In the last couple years after my Aunt passed he continued to be family in the support and love he showed me during that hard time. He was a kind and wonderful man who will be missed very much. I know he is with Deb & Rick again, all of them will forever be in my heart. To his family and friends I am so very deeply sorry for this loss. Aloha Ed Head
