Evelyn E. Bolton, 92
May 13, 2020
Retired missionary, Rev. Evelyn E (Burke) Bolton, was escorted into heaven on May 13, 2020. Although born in New Jersey in 1928, she grew up in South Africa, the daughter of missionaries Frederic and Lydia Burke. Lydia was a daughter of Swedish missionaries to Africa, making Evelyn a 3rd generation missionary.
In 1952 she married Robert Bolton, who was born in China, the son of missionaries Leonard and Ada Bolton. Robert & Evelyn began their ministry together planting a church in New Jersey. Following this pastorate, they became Assemblies of God (A/G) missionaries to Taiwan where they continued in church planting and teaching ministries for 40 years. Evelyn partnered with Robert in every part of ministry. She loved teaching, counseling, and praying with women and youth.
In 1994, rather than retiring, they received appointment under A/G Intercultural Ministries to minister among Chinese in the US. This led to planting a Chinese church in the Philadelphia area.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband who went to glory in 2012. They leave behind a legacy of faithful service and commitment to the Lord, as well as many spiritual children.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity
She speaks with wisdom and kindness
She is joyful for the time to come.
Her children rise up and call her blessed.”
Proverbs 31: 25, 26,28
Evelyn is survived by her 2 daughters and their husbands, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, who all adored her and whose wisdom and loving influence will remain with them their whole lives.
Evelyn’s family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the 8th floor nursing staff of Conestoga View Nursing home who took exceptional and compassionate care of their mom during the past year.
Her interment and memorial service will be held at a future date.

Though I have never met Evelyn her obit caused me to thank the Lord for a life well lived. What a precious child of God who served her Lord with devotion in so many varied ways. I wish I could have met her. May the Lord comfort all of you knowing that Evelyn is with her Lord and Savior.

Forgot one very important thing:
Due to Pastor and Mrs. Bolton’s patient teachings, Scriptures after Scriptures, even inviting Pastor and Mrs. Xue from Texas to help us, many of us have been filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues one after another…
Now I work with my lady pastor, a graduate from Rhema Bible School and affiliated with Kenneth Hagin Ministries, brothers and sisters in our church have been filled with the Holy Spirit as well. Praise the Lord!
Praying in tongues is such a spiritual powerful ammunition. Glory to the only true and good God!

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (The Living Bible) describes Rev. Evelyn Bolton well,
”I have fought long and hard for my Lord, and through it all I have kept true to Him. And now the time has come for me to stop fighting and rest. In Heaven a crown is waiting for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of His return. And not just to me but to all those whose lives show that they are eagerly looking forward to His coming back again.”
Mrs. Bolton, that’s the way we addressed her, worked closely and diligently with Pastor/Rev. Bolton to serve Chinese in the area of Philadelphia. Many people have received their Salvation through their ministries.
Mrs. Bolton played piano very nicely and elegantly, even when she’s in great pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis in her fingers. Besides, she’d immediately change to any key that Pastor Bolton asked for so that we’d sing with ease. Although she didn’t know how to read the sheet music, isn’t that amazing?
Pastor and Mrs. Bolton are to be greatly missed, but we’re to meet them again in the Glory. We’re so blessed. Praise the Lord!

P.S. Dear family of Mrs. Bolton, I just found out that I had this email this afternoon, apologize for the late response. Last time I met Mrs. Bolton and Joy was Oct. 2014. My husband and I are in Boston, he’s been in the program of D. Min. I’m the one who interpreted for Pastor Bolton sometimes. Left for Taiwan in 2007, back to the US 2015. Was in PA for a couple of months in 2014 to take care of my cousin.

We are joyful for our Dearest Sister Bolton received by our Lord Jesus Christ, enjoying the everlasting presence with our Dear Jesus. We will miss her loving smile and her real joy in life. Her presence was so encouraging and showed us the enriched life that Jesus could give us.
Sister Bolton was our two sons’ special Sunday School teacher (1: 2) at Highway Tabernacle, God Love Chinese AG church in Philadelphia. Our family was so blessed by her dedication to the Chinese friends.
She shall be called, “My faithful servant, Well done, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Amen.
Sharon, Joy & Bill, and family, Our deepest condolences and prayers are with you all !

As pastors we were honored to host Evelyn’s Dad Burke in our home, as he shared God’s Word and powerful stories from South Africa. As missionaries furloughed neighbors in Ventnor, NJ we met your precious family, sharing wonderful fellowship around our tables. As Missionaries-in-Residence at Valley Forge Christian College, we invited the Boltons to share with students. We visited and ministered in both their Philadelphia home and Chinese congregations. Recently as retirees we visited Evelyn in both assisted living and nursing homes. She was faithful to the end! What an inspiration for us all! We will certainly miss her sweet spirit here, but she’s enjoying Jesus’ glorious presence. Thanks Joy and Sharon for your love and care for both your parents through the years. With warm love and prayers for God’s comforting, embracing arms around you (without social distance). Bill and Hilda

I was blessed to know Eve since 2016 when I lived near her and attended Life Christian Fellowship church. We ladies enjoyed Bible study in her home until we both moved to Lancaster, Pa. God brought us back as friends while she was in the nursing home. She was a chosen vessel of the Lord. I Was Blessed to know her.
