Elwood “Woody” Flaharty, 94

Elwood C. “Woody” Flaharty, 94, of Lancaster, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
He was a retiree of the former Sperry New Holland serving as communication service manager, supervising the art, audio-visual, production, and the regional/national sales and dealer planning departments. Before this, he was employed by WGAL-TV for some 20 years. Freelancing while going to art school a year after the channel went on the air in 1949, he joined the company in 1951 as a staff artist.
A 1949 graduate of JP McCaskey High School, he attended Ad-Art Studio School in Pittsburgh, and was president of his graduating class of 1951. Woody was an avid flea-marketer, coin and Indian artifact collector. He also stayed connected to his fondness for the arts.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ernest B. and Margaret Flaharty. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Flaharty, his two sons: Curtis Flaharty of Conestoga and Brian P. Flaharty of Willow Street; his stepchildren Debra Carson of Florida and Rob Carson of Lancaster; and by his 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received by Woody’s family on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Woody’s memory to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
