Eileen B. Norris, 90
Eileen Burkard Norris, 90, of Conestoga, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born in New York City, Oct. 26, 1920 to the late Joseph Burkard and Alice Creighton.
Her husband, Norman R. Norris, preceded her in death in 2002.
Eileen was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
She attended school at Our Lady’s Institute and Our Lady of Mercy grade school in Bronx, NY, St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School, Bronx, NY and graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Riverdale, NY in 1942.
Eileen worked at the Bank of Manhattan, Wall Street, NYC, Dell Publishing Co., NYC, and taught in the Catholic school system in New York and Illinois.
She married Norman R. Norris of Dobbs Ferry, NY on September 14, 1946 and moved to Illinois and became a member of St. Alexander Catholic Church. She proclaimed God’s Holy Word as a lector for 32 years in Illinois and in PA. Eileen was known in Illinois for making banners for her church and was proud to be called “The Banner Maker to the King”.
Eileen was also a freelance writer and had numerous poems and short stories published.
She will be lovingly missed by her two daughters, Jane Anne Norris, of Conestoga, with whom she lived with, and Maureen Norris Bucaro, wife of Drew, of Conestoga, ten grandchildren, Rachel Bucaro Glowacki, wife of Christopher Glowacki, of Conestoga, Sara Sarro, wife of Stephen Sarro, of Paradise, Jessica Bucaro, of Baltimore, Shelia Bucaro, Michael Bucaro, Daniel Bucaro, David Bucaro, Benjamin Bucaro, Teresina Bucaro, and Kayla Bucaro, all of Conestoga. She was preceded in death by two brothers Joseph Jr. and Jack Burkard, three grandchildren, Elise R., Aaron, and Christopher Bucaro.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 11am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster, PA 17601 with The Rev. Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at the church from 10-11am. Final Farewell and Commendation will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
