Dr. Janice Elaine Marlett, 41
January 11, 2024
Dr. Janice Elaine Marlett, age 41, peacefully left this world too soon on January 11, 2024, at UPMC-York surrounded by family and friends. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Russell and Jean (Wise) Hall of Leola. A dedicated and compassionate soul, Janice leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love.
Janice’s journey in the field of nursing began after earning her RN degree from Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to achieve a BSN from Immaculata University, an MSN from the University of Cincinnati, and ultimately, a DNP from Liberty University. Her unwavering commitment to healthcare touched the lives of many.
Commencing her nursing career at Lancaster General Hospital, Janice’s skills and passion for patient care propelled her to the role of a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sinai Hospital in Maryland. She was immensely dedicated to the profession of nursing and believed in her mission to elevate nursing practice to improve care for all patients. In 2023, Janice was honored as a winner in Excellence in Nursing for Acute Care by Baltimore Magazine. She was recognized by her Sinai colleagues as the EBP/Research Nurse of the Year during Nurses’ Week 2023. Janice was also a published author in the Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing Journal.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janice was an avid explorer of the world, having traveled to four out of the seven continents. From the vibrant landscapes of Morocco to the serene beauty of Fiji, the wildlife of Kenya, and the rich histories of Spain and Switzerland, Janice embraced the diversity and richness the world had to offer.
Janice’s love extended to the animal kingdom, and she generously volunteered her time at the Lancaster SPCA, making a positive impact on the lives of furry companions. Janice was honored to be a cat mom to her three surviving feline companions Abby, Bella and Olivia. She is reunited with her two beloved cats, Louis and Casey.
In addition to her parents, Janice is survived by her siblings Raquel Wiker of Lancaster and Ross Hall (husband of Brianna) of South Carolina; her maternal grandmother Betty Wise of Holtwood; her paternal grandmother Thelma Hall of Lancaster; her aunts and uncles: Trish Frey (wife of Craig) of Holtwood, Brian Brombacher of Florida, and Chuck Hall (husband of Jennifer of Lancaster; cousins Kayla and Stephanie Hall).
Janice is preceded in death by her grandfathers William Ortutay and Charles Hall as well as her aunt Jane Wise. In her own death, Janice’s selflessness and generosity continued as she chose to be a gift of life donor.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. 17543 from 4pm to 6pm. A celebration of Janice’s life will follow at 6pm.
Donations may be made in Janice’s memory to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
In celebrating Janice’s life, let us remember the warmth of her heart, the kindness of her actions, and the joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her. May her memory live on in the hearts of family, friends, and colleagues who were touched by her grace.

My fiancé and I were fortunate to meet Janice and Raquel on a tour of Italy and Greece. We became fast friends and they made the trip for us. 18 months later they blessed us by attending our wedding in St. Louis. We always hoped there was another grand travel adventure in the works together for us all. We will cherish the memories of our time together and be forever grateful to have had the privilege to know Janice.
