Douglas Levitan, 61
March 19, 2019
Douglas Levitan, 61, of Marietta passed away at Reading Hospital-Tower Health on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. He was born in Lancaster to Nathan Levitan of Marietta and the late Mary (Darlington) Levitan.
Raised in Lancaster, Doug graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School where he played basketball and baseball. Doug attended Miami-Dade Community College, where he also played baseball. A great athlete, he had tryouts with some professional baseball teams as a pitcher.
Doug worked as a salesman for Faulkner Chevrolet up until 3 years ago before his illness caused him to stop. He received salesman of the year on numerous occasions and had many repeat customers because of his passion for selling cars.
He attended Congregation Shaarai Shomayim.
A very generous man, Doug helped others even if he was struggling. He was funny and always cracking jokes. Dougโs grandchildren were everything to him. He was a great father and grandfather. He enjoyed vacationing in Wildwood, NJ, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to his father Nathan, Doug is survived by his daughter Brittany L. Levitan and her boyfriend Julius Gomez and their children Aiden and Aries Gomez of Mount Joy; his brother Dr. Donald Masey, husband of Carolyn of Lititz, his sister Sarah Spencer of Millersville and his significant other and good friend Tina Herr of Lancaster.
A visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral at 10:30 AM with Rabbi Jack P. Paskoff officiating, on Friday, March 22, 2019, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment in Christadelphian Chapel Cemetery, Neffsville. In lieu of flowers donate to www.gofundme.com/douglaslevitan

My deepest sympathies to the entire family. Doug was a great person and a good friend. Doug and Sarah are like family. We grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same schools. I would say that we have been friends our entire lives, even though we didn’t see each other off and on for years we always considered Doug and Sarah more like family then friends. Doug will sorrowly be missed. We attended many parties together and had many laughs and great fun. I know he was a great father on talking about how proud he was of Brit going to college. I just wished Doug could have stayed with us longer. Guess the lord needed another angel. Sorry I couldn’t make the service. I will never forget Doug and will live on in our hearts.

My heart goes out to the Levitan Family. I worked with Doug and Nate for many years at Larry Murphy/ Faulkner Chevrolet . I had many laughs and conversations with Doug. As the newspaper said Doug was very giving to othrs even when he couldn’t afford it. Just like his dad. My thoughts and prayers will be with you .

Not having seen Doug since we played hoops together both at 6th Ward and our championship rec league team, I remember him as a soft-spoken, kind young man who was also a fantastic athlete. He could shoot equally well with both hands. My heart goes out to the family and loved ones. He was a great guy and I’m sure you must miss him. Jeremy Farber

I knew Doug for quite a number of years. I delivered his family’s mail on Hamilton St back in the 80’s. Doug and I played basketball with and against each other over the years and especially at 6th Ward Playground. He was always a friend and he will be missed. He’s celebrating and we will mourn. Peace goes out to his survivors who will always remember Doug in a fond way.
