Douglas G. Phillips, 76
Douglas G. Phillips, 76, of Millersville, went home to be with the Lord on July 28, 2006 at his home. He was the husband of Maryann Dieffenbach Phillips.
Born October 31, 1929 in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Douglas B. and Catherine Blumenstock Phillips.
Doug was in the Army for two years and in the Navy for four years. While in the Navy, he was on the Iowa, Charlie R. Ware Destroyer, Thomas E. Frazer Destroyer as a Mine Layer, and the Spike Fish Sub. He is a member of the American Legion Post #466 of Marietta. In his earlier years, he was a drummer in the Billy Vaughn Orchestra.
He retired in 1994 from Fuller Machine Shop and Foundry in Manheim after 35 years of employment. He also retired earlier this year from Lancaster County Courthouse where he was a bailiff for 10 years. He was well known for his love of soft pretzels and was called the “Soft Pretzel Man”. He also enjoyed fishing, slot car racing, playing cards with his family and video games. He was a member of Highville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son Douglas C. married to Kathleen (Paul) Phillips of Ephrata; four daughters; Tammy L. married to Jeffery L. Booth of Lancaster; Colleen D. married to Eric R. Brinkman of Conestoga; Susan M. married to Shawn M. Herbein of Reading; Kristin N. married to Gary L. Shaffer of Marietta; 15 grandchildren: Shawn R., Tamara, Chelsea, Joshua, Shawn M., Zachary, Sarah, Quinn, Catherine, Nicole, Levi, Jared, Monica, Izack, and Emily; three great grandchildren; Julie, Alex and Kaitlynn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay M. Phillips Oatman who died in August 2004.
Funeral services will be held at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St., Millersville on Monday at 11:00am. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00pm until 9:00pm and again on Monday morning from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
