Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson Fletcher, 88

Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson Fletcher, 88, of Philadelphia, passed away on February 9, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy, PA. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Monroe Sylvester Johnson & Rachel (Jolley) Johnson. Dorothy was the wife to the late Tracy F. Fletcher, Sr.
Dorothy graduated from St. Clair High School, Cambridge, MD in 1944 and later received a Business Administration Diploma from the Berean Institute, Philadelphia, PA. Dorothy was a typist for many years before working for the US Naval Aviation Supply Depot. She also worked as a claims clerk and a data review technician. Later, Dorothy worked as a social insurance representative for the US Social Security Administration. Dorothy also loved fashion, and in her retirement worked as a sales associate for Strawbridge and Clothier Department Store.
Dorothy was very athletic in her early years. She played softball for the US Naval Aviation and also volleyball. She was an avid baseball fan and loved the Phillies and also the Eagles. Her favorite TV shows were Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune & Family Feud. In addition to her affinity for completing crossword puzzles, Dorothy enjoyed Swing and Jazz dancing.
Surviving family members include a daughter, Deirdre L. Fletcher, Brooklyn Heights, NY; a son, Tracy F. Fletcher, II, married to Kimberly (Atchison), Millersville, PA; granddaughters: Morgan L. Fletcher, Alexandria, VA and Natasha S. Fletcher, Baltimore, MD; a granddog, Romeo Fletcher; a sister, Shirley J. Rose; sisters-in-law: Harriet Johnson, Ozella (Sugie) Williams & Fannie Pate; brother-in-law, Kenneth Fletcher; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by siblings.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Sunday, February 18 at Bright Side Baptist Church, 515 Hershey Avenue, Lancaster, PA. A Home Going Service will begin at 11 AM on Monday, February 19 at Grace United Methodist Church, 7101 N. 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19138. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Petersburg Cemetery, Hurlock, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Community Care of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Tracy and Deirdre, I have fond memories of your mom and your dad too! I admired your mother’s quiet and easy demeanor. I feel fortunate to have had her as one of the moms in our Angora Terrace “village. She was a positive example. I am so sorry for your loss. Best regards, Beverly (Burton) Randolph.
