Doris graduated from MTHS a year after me. Although our paths have not crossed since that time, the news of her passing saddened me but also brought back fond memories of her. I remember Doris as a kind, caring person so I am not surprised that she went on to a fine career in nursing.

Please accept my condolences.

Dear Peter,

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was always such a kind person. I worked with her in the early 1970’s in the OR at LGH and will never forget how she helped me both at work and personally. Certainly a woman who followed her own heart and mind. She will be missed.

Proud to be a nurse, just like your Mom.

Anne Miller RN, BSN, MHA

So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing.  I am just one of perhaps thousands of LGH staff who benefitted from my association with Doris.  In may case it was during the early to mid 1980s when I was Director of Purchasing for LGH and Doris ruled the OR.  Since the OR is the largest single customer of the purchasing department (i.e. more than 1/2 of all the dollars spent for supplies purchased by a hospital are spent for surgery suites) I got to know Doris pretty well.  Although somewhat of a tough task master on some occasions, Doris taught me some very valuable lessons and made me appreciate the urgency and importance of my "back stage" supply function to her front stage operating suite.  I have been very fortunate in my career since leaving LGH 20 years ago, but the lessons Doris taught me have never left me.  I often tell stories of my LGH days as I circulate on the speakers circuit addressing healthcare leaders all over North America and it is the professionalism, pride, work ethic and the balancing of the clinical needs with the business needs that Doris taught me that make these messages meaningful to my audiences.  I share your loss, as Doris was also a major contributor to my life.

Sincerely,
