Donna L. Duffey, 77

January 14, 1947 - December 11, 2024

Donna L. Duffey, age 77, of Lancaster, passed away on December 11 at home. Born on January 14, 1947 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Helen E. (Smith) Duffey.

Donna graduated from Millersville University with a B.A. degree in Mathematics. She was a computer programmer and teacher and enjoyed stitchery, décor design, flower gardening, and walks with friends. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Lancaster.

Most important to her were her faith and deep love of her family, especially time with her granddaughters, whom she treasured. Donna had a special talent for combining creativity with a great attention to detail. This talent was demonstrated throughout her life, including through her internationally-distributed counted cross-stitch designs and most recently in her work helping to plan events and theme dinners at her retirement community, Homestead Village.

Donna is survived by her son, Doug, husband of Dana Herr of Lancaster; her daughter, Kimberly, wife of Dr. Bill Symolon, (LTC, ret) of Springfield, VA; and four grandchildren, Abbey and Callie Herr and Elizabeth and Kardan Symolon.

A Celebration of Life, open to friends and family, will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, December 28 at the Bachman Center at Homestead Village, 633 Community Way, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Remembrances can be made in Donna’s memory to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Condolences to the Family

January 10, 2025

The world is a better place because Donna was in it. I was blessed to have known her and work on several church decorating projects with her.  She was so kind, soft spoken and humble about her many gifts and talents.  Her faith and love of her family were always present.
For the faithful who have gone before us and are at rest, let us give thanks to the Lord.

Donna was a wonderful person, a talented decorator, an enviable organizer, a creative genius, and, most especially, a truly good, good friend, one who never failed to  listen and respond as if your life events were every bit as important as her own.  She will be sorely missed forever.
Regretfully, we will be away on the 28th.
