Donald R. Phillips, 86
June 23, 2018
Donald R. Phillips, 86, of Windy Tor Road, Leola, PA, died on June 23, 2018 at his residence. Born in Plymouth, PA, he was the son of Dorothy and Ralph Phillips. He and his wife Ruth Ann Phillips celebrated 63 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Donald will be lovingly missed by his sons, Wayne and Kenneth, daughters-in-law Kathy and Wendy, grandchildren Mary, Andrew, Grant and Reid, great-grandson Benjamin and loved ones Shelby, Kurt, Bridget and Jenna, brother David Phillips and his wife, Jane, of Connecticut.
Don moved to Lancaster in 1961 and logged long career years at RCA and Armstrong World Industries. In retirement, he enjoyed Fridays at the Manheim Auto Auction driving “cream puffs” through the sales lanes.
A patriot and Army veteran, Don always took pride in flying the Flag. He served his Country during the Korean War.
He loved sports, especially golf and Phillies baseball. He introduced his boys to golf working on courses and caddying, and never missed the chance to watch them compete. Highlights included Wayne, head PGA professional at Lehigh Country Club, playing in the 2008 U.S. Senior Open and Ken playing in the 2015 U.S. and British Senior Amateurs. His most treasured golf experience was spending two days at Augusta National playing with his sons.
Don and Ruth loved the Jersey Shore and vacation trips to OBX. He will be remembered by many as the man who “could not sit still” and who took immense pride in his yard. Always ready to help others with putting their needs before his own, Don will be remembered for his firm handshake and gracious, polite demeanor.
Don and Ruth are members of Highland Presbyterian Church.
A private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Please remember him when you “see the ball drop into the hole” or when/if the Phillies ever win another pennant!! Contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Fund, Golf Association of Philadelphia, 1974 Sproul Rd, Suite 400, Broomall, PA 19008.
