Donald L. Underhill, 73

January 28, 2024

Donald L. Underhill, 73, of Lititz, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lancaster, PA, Donald was the son of the late Mary Jane (Eidemiller) and James R. Underhill, Sr. He was the loving father to Brian Underhill, husband of Melissa of Lititz, PA, and the beloved Papa to Brianna and Sean Underhill.

In 1970, Donald graduated from the Industrial Management Institute with a degree in Architecture. He dedicated 40 years to the modular home manufacturing industry and served as the Product Sales Manager for Walker Sales and Distribution.

Donald found immense joy and fulfillment in a range of activities that enriched his life and brought happiness to those around him. He found solace and peace in the art of fly fishing. Whether casting on tranquil waters or tying intricate flies, it was a pastime that brought him both relaxation and joy. Donald took great pleasure in the art of cooking. His culinary skills shone brightly, especially during the festive seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Family and friends were treated to his delectable creations, making these occasions even more memorable. The great outdoors beckoned to Donald on the golf course. Golfing was not just a sport for him; it was a favorite outdoor activity that allowed him to unwind, enjoy the fresh air, and perhaps share a few laughs with friends on the greens. Donald’s passion for sports, particularly his fervor for the Philadelphia teams and the Eagles, was a defining aspect of his life. Cheering for his favorite teams, celebrating victories, and enduring defeats, sports were woven into the fabric of his identity.

Among his most cherished roles was that of a dedicated family man. Donald attended and actively supported his grandchildren in their various activities. Whether cheering from the sidelines or offering words of encouragement, his presence added warmth and pride to every family moment.

Donald is survived by his son Brian husband of Melissa; grandchildren: Brianna and Sean Underhill; brothers: James “Jim” R. Underhill, Jr. husband of Barbara of

Willow Street and Kenneth R. Underhill husband of Lynn of Strasburg, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family and friends will be received from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at Witness Park Cemetery, Lititz.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Donald’s name may be made to Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, https://www.lancastergeneralhealth.org/giving-foundation/making-a-gift/memorial-gifts.

Donald’s diverse interests showcased a life well-lived, filled with moments of quiet reflection, culinary creativity, outdoor pursuits, spirited sports fandom, and unwavering support for his beloved family. These passions will be remembered as integral parts of his vibrant and meaningful life.

I just happened to be looking for another obituary and noticed the name Underhill.  I don’t think I ever met Don but I knew his father ‘Jim’.  He was my baseball coach and left a huge impact on my life spending time and teaching me how to through a curve and slider.  I just wanted to say you all are in my prayers over this time of loss.  It is never easy and part of that is just because of how much is left with us in their parting ways and not being able to share with them.  May the legacies of Don be carried with dignity.  From the sounds of it, I’m sure he left a few recipes behind that will continue on and savored for years to come.  Enjoy his memories.  His father’s memories remain with me.

Although I wasn’t that close with Donny at CV High I always liked him, so sorry to see he passed away. I guess you just never know, but it surely takes it’s toll on family and friends.
