November 27, 2025
David G. Kerchner, 92, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Louise (Grim) and Oscar Kerchner. He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Barbara, with whom he shared 63 years of devoted marriage.
David received his Bachelor’s degree from Moravian College. Prior to retirement, he enjoyed a long career as a Finance Manager with General Motors, a role in which he took great pride.
He was a dedicated member of Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, David believed in service and connection, reflected in his involvement with numerous organizations. He was a proud member of the Downingtown Moose, an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and a member of both The Railroad Association and the Sons of the American Revolution.
David loved bowling, embraced photography, and took great joy in working in his yard. A world traveler, he and his beloved Barbara explored many destinations together. Never one to shy away from adventure, David even went skydiving for his 80th birthday. He also opened his home and heart as a loving foster parent to many children throughout the years—a role that brought him immense fulfillment. In his later years, he was a devoted caregiver to his wife Barbara, demonstrating the deep love and loyalty that defined their marriage.
David is survived by his children: Eric Kerchner, husband of Gloria, of Effort, PA; Catherine L. McKeever of Lincoln University; Rachel Holmes of Lancaster; Mary Baughman of Peach Bottom; Susan Connolly of Parkesburg; and Tommy G. Kerchner, husband of Dawn, of Honey Brook. He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sandy Grimm, infant son Michael, his grandson Joseph Baughman, and three siblings.
