Dear All,

I post this note of sympathy and remembrance with a heavy heart for "Our Good Neighbor" will be sorely missed. When I think of Mr. Dougherty, I think of his devotion to his dear Ginny and to your family. I remember the neighborly ‘tomato plant contests’ each year as he and my Dad had a friendly bet as to which one of them would harvest the first tomato. In recent years, he was my ‘Snow Blower  Angel’ who made sure, despite the fact that he could barely get around on a bum knee,’ that my driveway was clear of snow. He was, without a doubt, a good man…a kind man. And I will miss him.
  
From my hallway, where I turn off the outdoor lights every night, I would look ‘up the street’ toward the Dougherty house and see his second story room light. It gave me comfort to know that he and Ginny, or during this last year, he alone, was ‘there.’ Although that light is now darkened, I believe in my heart that all any of us needs to do is look to God’s vast heaven as surely one of those stars is the large Spirit of God’s newest Angel.  May the God of Dan’s deep and abiding faith comfort you in these coming days.   With sincere condolences,

On behalf of my parents, Homer and June Adams, I would like to express our heartfelt sympathy for the death of your father.  My dad worked with Dan for many years at Armstrong and Dan was a dear and loyal friend to my dad, especially following his stroke in 1986.  My parents always looked forward to Dan’s visits. Unfortunately my parents are unable to attend the services, due to health issues.  They were shocked and very saddened to learn of your father’s death. Please accept our condolences.

In all the distress of your present sorrow it will comfort you to know… that human love does not die but is in some mysterious manner transmuted too the eternal, The love and dedication you showed your Father was a constant inspiration to me. 
I remember your Dad would open the trunk of his car, after mass at the Monastery and share the fruits of his garden ‘tomatoes’,
The many times he and your mother invited the 0645 group to the Manor,
Their love and generosity to include everyone always was very inspiring.
God has called him home, to be reunited with your mother.

I was out of town, I left right after mass on Friday to attend another funeral, got back last night.

On behalf of the Life Group at LCBC church (the group that did yard and house work for Daniel this past fall), I want to express our sincere sympathy to you all, and esp. those we met at Christmas–sister, daughters, in-laws, and grandchildren. We are so glad that we got to meet Daniel, but so sorry that our time together was so short. Oh course, you will all miss him so much more than we can imagine. You seem like a very close family. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers. May God comfort you all.
