Dale G. Hersh, Sr., 74

October 26, 2013

Dale G. Hersh, Sr., 74, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Gertrude A. Hersh.
Dale was the loving husband of Priscilla (Shreiner) Hersh.
Dale retired from Lancaster Malleable Castings Co. after 47 years, where he was a dedicated operator who had 10 years of perfect attendance.
He was an avid and dedicated sports fan, proudly cheering on his favorite teams, the L.A. Kings, L.A. Dodgers, St. Louis Rams, and Penn State. He loved to travel and spend time with his wife. Dale adored his grand and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Dale is survived by his three children; Dale G. Hersh, Jr., of Mount Joy, Danna L. Miller, of Lancaster, and Darren E. Hersh, husband of Tatiana, of Sterling, Virginia. He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his four grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Alana, Niklas, and 2 great grandchildren Arianna and Gabriel.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dale’s memory may be made to the Ark Angel Foundation, 8 Russet Ln, Millersville, PA 17551, 717-333-3872, or online at www.ArkAngelFoundation.com.

Condolences to the Family

Dad loved coffee, he loved sports, he loved travel, he loved his family, he loved country music, and he loved the holidays.  He loved.
He had tough life growing up, but he always said, “What can you do about it?,” so he always forged ahead and looked on the bright side if life to find the good.  He worked extremely hard to provide for his family and he was amazingly generous.  He had a ten year perfect attendance record, which drawn out, was more days than Cal Ripken Jr’s record and working in an iron foundry was far more strenuous work than pro baseball.  He was a true “iron man.”
i miss my best man at my wedding, my travel companion, and the very best father and role model that this life could afford.  We put up the Christmas tree tonight and a row of lights are out making a dark ring around near the top.  It will remain unlit this year in your memory.  Merry Christmas, Dad!  I know that the kids will be opening gifts that you already bought for them, because you were generous and thoughtful to the end.
The Reading Royals had a moment of silence for you at one of the games.  So well deserved!
I miss you and we all miss you!
Love, Darren

Dear Hersh Family…
Although it has been many, many years since the days of street hockey in the Armstrong parking lot and my 1st concert (Peter Frampton and Lynryd Skynryd, amonst a few others) I will carry many memories of Dale Sr. and your entire family with me for the rest of my life. I know you all will find peace and comfort in the wonderful memories that he has left you with. Sending love to each of you.

Priscilla and family,
I was so saddened to read of the passing of Dale.  What a great guy he was. I enjoyed Dale’s friendship over the years…both during and since our days at Lancaster Malleable.  He always stopped by to see me at Clipper Magazine Stadium, whenever he came to a game.  He will certainly be missed.  You have my condolences.

We had the great pleasure of getting to know Dale (“Pop”) and Priscilla (“Mum”) at the Reading Royals games. We are so honored to have been blessed with this friendship and the warm welcoming of the entire family. We will always carry his memory in our thoughts and hearts and know that at every Royals game, he is sitting behind us telling them to ICE IT. You will be sadly missed!
May God be with you and know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Dale. We loved you then, now and forever.
Love,
Lynn and Chet Deeds
