Charles W. Fry, Jr., 92

Charles W. Fry, Jr., 92, formerly of Willow Street, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He shared 67 years of marriage with his wife Gladys J. (Summers) Fry before her passing in 2019.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles W. Fry, Sr., and Wilhelmina Caroline (Mehl) Fry. Charlie graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War at Fort Campbell, KY with Headquarters & Headquarters Battery 455th Field Artillery Battalion, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. In civilian life, Charlie worked as a construction foreman for Wickersham Construction.

He was an influential family-oriented man, and a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. Charlie loved to take his family fishing and he enjoyed playing with the kids.

He was an avid offshore fisherman and boater on his Mako center console boat at his Dogwood Acres, DE summer home. Charlie piloted his boat to the Bahamas on two occasions. He was a member of Pequea Boat Club and enjoyed the family place on the island on the Susquehanna River. Then he moved onto the Chesapeake and then to Dagsboro, DE. Charlie built several wood boats. He also enjoyed hunting.

Charlie’s family includes his daughter, Adora “Dorie” S. wife of James L. Weik of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Sean Weik, of Ephrata, Valerie, wife of Brian Stoneburner of Ephrata, Susan, wife of Marc Pizzola of Lititz, Angie Rhinier of Florida, Emily Rhinier of Florida, and David Rhinier of Mount Joy; six great-grandchildren, Chase Weik, Tyler Alexander, Lucas Stoneburner, Addylin Stoneburner, Gabriel Pizzola, and Jake Pizzola; and his sister, Marianne Shaubach, wife of the late Richard of Dagsboro, DE

In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah A. (Fry) Rhinier in 1998, and his sister, Joyce Styer in 2023.

A viewing will take place 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am, with The Rev. Mark J. Thiboldeaux, Sr. officiating, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Interment in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.

I wanted to let you know that your father and grandfather was one of the nicest men I ever met. He was always such a gentlemen and so very kind to me when I worked at Wickersham. So sorry I missed the service. You have my  deepest sympathy.
