Charles Archer Michael, 84

November 20, 2025

Charles “Arch” Archer Michael, of Lititz, Pa., passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, Pa., after a sudden pancreatic cancer diagnosis, at the age of 84.

Arch was born in Baltimore, Md., on March 28, 1941, to Charles Wesley and Francis Archer Michael. He was raised in Bel Air, Md., and attended St. James Preparatory School (class of 1959) in Hagerstown, Md., and Elon University, N.C. It was in Maryland where he met his spouse of 54 years, Carole Warfield Michael.

Soon after marrying, Arch and Carole moved to Lititz and became completely immersed in the community, where they raised their three boys: Charles “Mike” (Nidhi) of Lititz, Tim (Tori) of Frederick, Md., and Todd (Megan) of Lake Bluff, Ill. Arch will be remembered by many for his involvement with Woodridge Swim Club and his years volunteering and coaching for the local youth baseball and football programs.

Arch’s professional life was defined by his dedication and commitment to Lititz Mutual Insurance Company, where he worked for 46 years and was Vice President of Underwriting at the time of his retirement in 2010, while serving on several industry related Boards.

Arch was very recognizable driving throughout Lititz in a sportscar (often red) tagged with his iconic “Arch M” license plate, and he always enjoyed sharing stories with friends around his kitchen island over a beer and peanuts.

Above all else, Arch loved his family, the beach, and Maryland hard shell crabs, all of which he passed on to his boys and his six beloved grandchildren: Alexandra Needleman (Matt), Hilton, Zachary, Wesley, Matty and Finley Michael, who affectionally call him GrandArchie, Pop Pop, or (just) Arch, depending on who you ask. It was a true blessing that his entire family came together three weeks prior to his passing for the beautiful wedding of his oldest granddaughter, which will be a special memory they will hold in their hearts forever.

In addition to his boys and grandchildren, Arch is survived by his sister, Francis Archer Rosenbleeth (Herb), his brother-in-law, Thomas Neff (Cheryl), and his niece and three nephews. He is preceded in death by Carole and his parents.

A celebration of Arch’s life will be held January 3rd at the Lititz Springs Inn.

Arch and Carole truly had a deep love for the Lititz community and highly admired the first responders who keep it safe, including their son Mike. In lieu of flowers, Arch requested that memorial donations be made to the Lititz Fire Department (24 W Main St, Lititz, PA 17543) or to Hospice & Community Care (4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552), as they so lovingly cared for Carole at the time of her passing.
