Carmen Luisa Gonzalez, 74

Carmen Luisa Gonzalez, 74, of Lancaster passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Fernanda Roldan and Benito Vargas. She was the loving, caring and devoted wife to the late Alfredo Gonzalez for 51 years.

Carmen was a longtime member of San Juan Bautista Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Legion of Mary. She also volunteered for the CCD. Carmen loved to read and garden. She could often be found working on crossword puzzles. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Most of all, Carmen loved to spend time with her family. Carmen retired from the School District of Lancaster where she worked with ESL students for over 20 years. Her dedication to her faith and family will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carmen is survived by her children: Zulma N. Gonzalez companion of Keith Wilson of Mt. Joy, Lizzette Jones wife of David of Gainesville, VA, Claribel G. Cruz wife of Albert of Manheim and Alfredo Gonzalez, Jr., fiancée of Lourdes Vernet of Shrewsbury, PA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Julian, David, Adrian, Benicio, Emilio, Elena and Lorenzo, and one sister, Esperanza Vargas and three brothers: Armando Vargas, William Vargas and Ramon Vargas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 11, 2019 at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church, 425 S. Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment to follow in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the mass on Monday.

To the Gonzalez family, I’m sorry for your loss.  I had the honor of working with Carmen for many years at M.L.King school.  She was a lovely person.  God give strength to the family.  Her memory will live on for ever in our hearts.

My sincere condolences to Carmens beautiful family. From the first day I had the pleasure of meeting her s g e made m e feel like I know her for ever. She was t g at kind soul that ypu only meet once in your life time. I’m very hurt by this loss.  I still feel her with me. I’m sure that she’s resting in peace. My sincere condolences Carmen’s whole family and all her friends for your loss.  I regret not having had the privilege of meeting Carmen, but am convinced that she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend… May all family members and friends find comfort in knowing that Carmen is resting in God’s Eternal Peace!

Carmen was a fine lady and she will be missed by many. I wish I could take the pain away… I think she missed her husband too much to go on alone. She died peacefully and she has rejoined him. My love and condolence to all her children and grandchildren .
