Brenda E. Keener, 84
December 18, 2025
Brenda E. Keener, 84, passed away on December 18, 2025 after a one week stay at Maple Farm, following a sudden and brief illness. Brenda was born in Lancaster, PA to her late parents, David M. and Florence E. (Shomo) Keener.
Brenda graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in mathematics. She spent her entire 30-year career as a middle school math teacher at Eastern York School District. During Brenda’s teaching years, she traveled extensively during summer breaks, visiting and hiking in Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, various European countries, and parts of the United States. She continued traveling in retirement, often taking advantage of the Road Scholar program.
Brenda was a lifelong learner and voracious reader, favoring historical fiction and magazines about nature, natural history, and discovery. When she wasn’t reading, she was often assembling jigsaw puzzles. Brenda also spent many hours outdoors, walking and hiking rail trails with her friends.
Brenda was a lifelong and faithful member of Wisdom and Grace UCC (formerly St. Peter’s UCC), where she was very active in the Women’s Fellowship.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was predeceased by her sister Sandra Townsend. She is survived by her sister Diane Keener of East Petersburg and cousins.

Brenda, I will miss seeing you at church. It doesn’t seem possible that you will no longer be there in body – but perhaps in spirit. You were so very faithful.

Will miss you, Brenda. I think of all the good times we had at St. Peter’s UCC – Women’s Fellowship, the Community Meal, the many Christmas Bazaars. And, even we no longer have an organized Wome’s Fellowsip at LIFT, four of us from St. Peter’s still were meeting periodically at a church member’s home. Will also miss you at the Small Group (of LIFT)you were part of at our apartment.
Rest in peace, Brenda. Sending love & hugs, Pastor Bob & Carole Muise

She always enjoyed the Friday morning hikes (walks) with retired friends from the Lancaster Hiking group and then enjoyed lunch with everyone at various restaurants. I will really miss her….her smile and our interesting conversations.
