Betty D. Miller, 88

October 13, 2018

On Saturday, October 13, 2018, Heaven called Betty D. Miller (88) home after many years of battling dementia. Born to the late Arthur and Cassie Draper of Rathbone, NY, she later married Walter S. Miller of Hammondsport, NY.
Betty worked for many years at the VA Hospital in Bath NY in the housekeeping department until her early retirement and later babysitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren which was her passion.
Some of her many accomplishments in life consisted of her biological children, the late William “Arnie” Miller and Donna Shertzer (Steve) with whom she lived shortly after the passing of Walter, until 6 years ago when her final home was established at Calvary Fellowship Homes. She was the stepmother to John (Marcia) Miller, Lancaster, PA; Roy (Carol) Miller, Lancaster, PA, the late Roberta (Richard) Fleishman, Pultney NY and Brenda Miller and her partner Deb Weaver, Lancaster, PA. She had numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren however they were never referred to as “step” children or grandchildren.
Betty was the last of her siblings and is dancing in heaven with her older sister Anna May and younger brother David.
The disease took her speech but never took her love for music and children. The community room at Calvary Fellowship Homes is where she would enjoy both of these activities and was known to give anyone who came into her world a big smile and an occasional “dancing in her wheelchair” show.
Her family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Calvary Fellowship Homes especially the staff in Health Care for their kind attention and care they provided to Betty for the past 6 years. The home is truly a gift from God. Caring Hospice Services also provided much needed support and comfort during the final days and should be acknowledged as well.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00AM at Calvary Fellowship Homes, 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, in the Fellowship Hall, officiated by Rev. Kevin Brown, Sr. A light luncheon where friends and family will be received and welcomed will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Calvary Fellowship Homes Benevolent Fund at the above address.
