Barry Michael Pikolas, 59

Barry Michael Pikolas, 59, of Asheville, NC, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. A native of Lancaster, PA, he was a son of the late Tony and Helen Simmons Pikolas.

Barry attended J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, where he was a co-captain of the track team and played football. He was also inducted into the J.P. McCaskey Hall of Fame, where his shot put record, set in 1967, still stands to this day. After high school, he enrolled at West Chester University, where he pursued weightlifting and held the national collegiate record for the dead-lift.

Barry was passionate about antiques, fishing, the beach and nature in general. Most importantly, his daughters and granddaughter are his true "Hall of Fame".

He will be greatly missed and always loved by his two daughters, Brooke Babiker and her husband, Sami, of Asheville and Ashley Pikolas and Randy Graffa and their daughter, Kaia Yalena Sage Graffa, also of Asheville and one brother, John Pikolas and his wife, Beverly, of Lancaster, PA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to one’s local Boys and Girls Club of America ( www.bgca.org).

Sorry to hear about your father.  We have known him as a child. Your Grandfather (PAPOU) Tony and I were first cousins.
May his memory be eternal and may he rest in peace.
God Bless

Dear Brooke & Ashley
I am so sorry for the loss of your father.  Barry was a good friend and neighbor and his girls were his pride and joy.  My prayers are with you.

I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.  I attended school with Barry
and remember him well, he was a friend.  I graduated 1967 and if you asked any of the females of JP McCaskey about Barry, 1st would be WOW what a hunk;2nd would be such a sweet guy.  1965 – 1966 – 1967 were great years at McCaskey, and most of the students knew each other and really were friends.  I miss those good-old days of safety at school and friendships that were so easy to make and keep.  No drama like today. This year McCaskey is having a 60th birthday BASH for our school class….I can tell you he will be remembered during the ceremonies.  He was well liked and very popular with all.
My condolences.

Pikolas Family,
I was saddened to read of your father passing. A vibrant life cut short at such an early age is always tragic. I knew your father from Junior Hi & Hi School. He was always one of the nicest people. May you be comforted in all the great memories you share.
