Barry B. Bell, 83
September 24, 2024
Barry B. Bell, 83, of Lancaster, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. He was born and raised in Lancaster, the son of the late Wayne T. and Mary Ellen (Sener) Bell. Barry graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1958, then went on the earn his bachelor’s degree from Millersville State College in 1962. He then worked as a lab technician at RCA and Thomson for 37 years.
Barry had three passions in life: basketball, birdwatching and his grandchildren. In addition to playing basketball at LCHS and Millersville, he spent a number of years coaching at St. Anne’s parochial School and LCHS. He was an avid birdwatcher, logging his sightings from all over the country. But most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending sporting events or any event they were involved in. If you knew Barry, you know he was rarely quiet at a basketball game, no matter who was playing. He had quite a reputation in the reffing community for many years. He may have even gotten kicked out of a few gyms. It didn’t matter to him. He was an authority on anything basketball, or so he thought.
Barry’s family includes his son, Michael D. Bell (Jeanne) of East Petersburg, daughter Kris Ross (Pat) of Lancaster, daughter Vicki L. Souders (Ronald) of Lancaster, his former wife Yvonne Bell, seven grandchildren, Nathan Bell (Logan), Matthew Bell
(fiancée Ali), Hogan Ross (Taylor), Alexandra Ross, Brady Souders (companion Jordan), Zachary Souders (fiancée Tiffany), and Addison Souders, great granddaughter Everly Souders, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Barry was
preceded in death by his brother Norman J. Bell, Sr.
Barry’s family will receive guests from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution in Barry’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Barry. I knew Barry playing Basketball in the 1960’s and 70’s when he would show up at Rodney Park and get into the pickup games there. I am 9 years younger then Barry and he was the oldest guy who played with us. Barry more then held his own playing against younger players. He was a good guy to have on your team. My condolences to the entire family.

Had a lot of great times and beers playing cards with Barry in Bill Goba’s garage. He was an authority on more things than basketball. Miss him.

Pop Bell was a large part of our lives. He showed us many new things, specifically bird watching. One can never look at a tufted titmouse the same, again. We enjoyed watching the 76ers practice at F&M. Thank you for sharing your life with us. J. Velazquez
