Barbara Rishell Barnett, 73
January 07, 2018
Barbara Rishell Barnett, 73, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018. She was the wife of the late J. Bruce Barnett Jr. Born in Lancaster, Barbara was the daughter of the late Norman and Mary E Schneider Rishell.
She grew up on Cabbage Hill and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School. Barbara worked in the accounting field throughout her life. As her late husband, Bruce, was a Marine, she was a strong supporter of the US Marine Corps and all active service men, women, and veterans. A big fan of the Eagles and Penn State, Barbara enjoyed watching football whether it be supporting the midget and high school teams at Conestoga Valley, or cheering on a Penn State victory from her living room. She enjoyed the sun and sand, and looked forward to family vacations in Ocean City, MD. So much of her energy was devoted to her daughter. Barbara was always supporting her daughter’s dance career, her cheerleading endeavors, and most recently her canine family and flyball racing. Her family, friends, grand-doggies, and her dog Dexter, were Barbara’s greatest treasures.
She is survived by her daughter: Kristin R O’Connor of Lancaster, her sister Debra Himmelberger of York, her brother Lamont Rishell of Lancaster, her nephew Steven Cashdollar of Lancaster and his family, and her niece Kimberly Dilling of York.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 9-10am at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 East King St, Lancaster, PA, with a Christian Prayer Service to follow at 10am. Interment in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Barbara’s memory to We Rescue Love, PO Box 8471, Elkridge, MD 21075 (werescuelove.org) or to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy East, Lancaster, PA 17602 (humanepa.org).

I was one of Barbara’s friends throughout elementary school and especially in high school. We were majorettes together, and shared many fun times. I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the services. I would have loved to meet her daughter. My sympathies to all of her family.
