Barbara Lynn Mellish, 82

Barbara L. Mellish, 82, of New Providence passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Cranford, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Lulu (Messinger) Austin. She was the wife of Jerry Mellish with whom she shared over 57 years of marriage.

She graduated from Metuchen High School as a National Honor Society member and was second in her class academically. She began working for Union Carbide in Bound brook, New Jersey in the steno pool immediately after graduation. She progressed through higher level positions and eventually was promoted to the Manager of Offices Services where she was responsible to lead 57 employees with 3 assistants and reported to the plant manager. She had the responsibility to purchase the computers, copy machines, telephone service, and printing equipment for the plant and control the in-plant mail delivery service. She received the Presidents Excellence award in addition to other recognitions for quality performance.

Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a child and was baptized by immersion and proceeded to attend churches in Metuchen and Clinton, NJ before moving to Lancaster where she and Jerry joined Calvary Church. Barbara used the spiritual gift and other skills and talents helping with church ministries and programs.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Bruce Austin of Garwood, NJ.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 15th with visitation at 5:00 pm and the service at 6:00 pm with fellowship and food to follow at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to Calvary Church (Educational Grant Fund), and Lancaster Bible College (Scholarship Fund).
