Arvilla K. Enck, 91
February 26, 2018
Arvilla K. Enck, 91, died Monday, February 26, 2018 at Moravian Manor. She was born in Ephrata to the late Harry and Rachel (Myers) Keller and graduated from Ephrata High School in 1944.
She attended George Washington University and received a degree in pharmacy in 1944. She married Frank Durrell Enck, a WWII vet and chairman of the physics dept. at Franklin and Marshall College.
Blessed with their only son “Eddie” in 1954, they lived for many years in Lancaster. Together they enjoyed playing “pounce” till late at night, skiing, attending F&M functions, playing bridge and pinochle with their “hunting club” crew, attending St. Peters U.C.C. Church, Lancaster, spending summers in the 1000 Islands and living in Zurich, Switzerland on sabbatical and many years later playing monopoly with her grand kids and finally listening to her great granddaughter read to her.
After Durrell’s sudden passing in 1973 Arvilla actively pursued a career as a pharmacist at Wiley’s Pharmacy in Quarryville and Strasburg, where she enjoyed most the beautiful soles of the youthful co-workers around her, into her late 80’s.
She is survived by her son Edwin D. Enck, his wife Dyann, their children Nathan (h/o Debbie) and Allisha Enck (w/o Alison Sorrell), and her great grandchildren, Grace and Liam; and her nieces Gail Huber, Judy Shippen, Edrie Pierce and April Enck, and nephews Alan and David Heppel and Scott and Jeff Enck.
Funeral services for Arvilla will take place 11 AM Monday, March 5, 2018 in Steinman Hall at Moravian Manor, 300 W. Lemon St., Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Richard Thierolf officiating. Interment in Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frank Durrell Enck Memorial Prize in Physics at F&M College, Office of College Advancement, Attn: Advancement Services, PO Box 3003, Lancaster, PA 17604-3003.

I’m very sorry to have learned of Mrs. Enck’s passing. She was a wonderful lady and a class act. My father, Dr. L. V. Cherry, worked with Dr. Durrell Enck in the F & M Physics Dept. and our families were great friends; we lived about a block away from them. Mrs. Enck was always very nice to me when I was a kid. I remember that she had a dry, subtle sense of humor and liked to tell amusing stories. I’m honored to have known her; she will be sorely missed. –Dave Cherry, Reno, NV

Dear Edwin and Family, I met Arvilla in 1973 when Durell was a patient on dialysis. I was so impressed that Arvilla was a pharmacist as there were few women in that profession in those days.I still have a signed copy of the book The Island by your family friend Robert Russell which she gave me. She was a very smart gentle lady. Jackie Muth Johns R.N.

My Dad hired Arvilla many many years ago to work at the Quarryville Drug Co (before it was the Quarryville Pharmacy). I enjoyed working with her and respected & admired her. She was a very special lady….without a doubt one of the good people. Blessings of peace as you think of her. Kathie Gabriel

Arvilla was a long time employee of mine at the Quarryville Pharmarmacy & the Strasburg Pharmacy for many years. She was a very dedicated & excellant employee as well as a friend. She was a member of our pharmacy family & was a very special friend to me & my wife. We know that her family will miss her as we will but we will forever have memories of the many good times we shared with her…. may God’s peace be with you all….. Walt/June Godfrey
