Obituaries
Arthur C. McCormack, 74
March 18, 2016
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Master Gardener
Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.
Growing up as a boy in Rockaway Beach, New York with his two sisters, life was not easy. From the time Arthur was twelve he worked summers and part-time jobs to support himself, finance his education and contribute to his family. He married at twenty-one and soon after began his career in freight forwarding. A self-made man, he always worked hard, moonlighting at times selling magazines and home products to provide for his young family. His employment in the field of import/export led to the establishment of his own successful business which allowed him to travel around the world for twenty-five years.
Throughout his life, Arthur had many hobbies which included gardening, painting, fishing, boating and building furniture. He also enjoyed good food, a good glass of wine and living life to its fullest. After retirement, in addition to his many hobbies, he dabbled in real estate for a short while but he was most proud of his most recent achievement of becoming a “Master Gardener”.
Those who knew Arthur best remember him as a caring, generous, prankster who volunteered and cared for those in need. Arthur was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Lancaster.
Arthur is survived by his adoring wife of thirty-one years, Vivian, his sister Maryann and her husband Steve Kinsler, his children Kelly and Tom Cook, Butch and Lorraine McCormack, John and Laura McCormack, Essam and Victoria Abadir and grandchildren Zachary and Samantha Raia, Shayne and Kieran McCormack, and Nile and Jolie Abadir.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 22nd at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603 at 10:30AM with The Rev. Dr. Alexander Goussetis, Rev. Hector Firoglanis, and Rev. Alexander Veronis. There will be a visitation from 9:30-10:30am. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please make a memorial contribution to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or The Water Street Rescue Mission 210 S Prince St, Lancaster, PA 17603.

A man who walked around with a compliment in one pocket and a laugh in the other. It was an aboslute joy to be on of Art’s many students, if only for too short a time.

My name is Peggy Woods and I knew Art as a fellow member of the Master Gardener Class of 2014. It was so much fun getting to know him over the past year and a half. I will always remember the garden bugs he painted for our Garden Shed sale. He will be very much missed. My condolences to the family. I am hoping to be able to attend the funeral service.

Our deepest condolences and sympathy to the McCormack family at the loss of Arthur. We count the NE Pennsylvania McCormacks (Butch and Lorraine and family) as among our dearest and most respected friends in the world, and while we never had the privilege of meeting Arthur, surely we have seen a glimpse of his character and strength in the honest, hard working, dedicated family man that is his son, Butch. May the joy of your fondest memories and the spiritual power of faith help your family to navigate the turbulent waters of grief in the days ahead.
Love, The Bennie family, Anthony,Amanda, Nicholas, and Todd

So sorry. I so enjoyed sitting next to Art in our Master Gardener classes, answering calls for the Hort Desk, and having him visit here at our home. He lived an incredible life and in just the two years I knew him he gave so much to our friendship. I regret not getting a personal tour of his raised beds and gardens. The canas and scarlet runner beans he gave last year will have special meaning this year growing in our garden. Our condolences to all.
Grace and peace.

My condolences to Vivian and the family,
Arty has, and always will be, my boss, friend and more importantly a father figure in every way. I was 22 when I met Arty back in 1988. I interviewed for a position at Armac Transportation and Arty ultimately hired me. We worked together for 11 year and when he decided to retire in 1999. Arty gave me the opportunity to continue the legacy of Armac Transportation Inc., which he worked so hard to build. During our time together, Arty saw things in me that I could never have imagined as a young man. He gave me a place to work and always treated me like a son. Because of this, I was able to grow into the man I am today and i could not be more blessed to have had him in my life.
Arty, you will always be in my thoughts & prayers. Now that you are in Heaven, may you rest in peace. Please watch over your family, friends and everyone you have touched throughout your life. Until we met againg may God bless you!
Your Friend,
Peter Daniels

For all of Arthur’s family and friends I offer my deepest sympathies. His passing will leave a huge space in your lives which in time will be filled again with all the wonderful memories of an amazing man. He achieved so much, was so talented, and so fair and kind. His legacy is an example to everyone! I loved him too….nice memories of out on the dock, your wedding day, Vivian, knowing all the children. I always remember, Vivian, that when Geddo was so ill, you and Arthur were not at a point of planning a wedding, but you called him to come to Iowa City because you needed him; I took you to the airport and when he arrived, I’ll never forget the huge loving embrace and kisses you gave him. That was my first introduction to a very special man who was your rock for so many years. Much love and prayers to all of you, Cindy McLaughlin

To my Favorite Nephew Arthur —-
May the Good Earth be soft Under you
When you rest upon it,
May it rest easy over You when,
At the last, you lay out under it,
And may it rest so lightly over You
That your soul may be out
From under it quickly, and up, and off,
And On Its Way to God.
Love, Your Favorite Uncle
