Apornpan (Mum) Dougherty
June 16, 2013
Mum Dougherty passed away surrounded by her loved ones in her home Sunday June 16th. Mum was loved by many as the perfect mixture of a caring compassionate heart, fun-loving spirit and persistent toughness. Born in Thailand, February 10, 1966, she and her sister joined their mother in moving to the US when she was 8. They lived in a variety of places, finally settling down in Merkel, then Abilene, Texas. She came to Lancaster to go to college at Millersville, where she graduated in 1992. By profession, she was a social worker. In her work, she dedicated herself to those most in need. She worked with seniors and their families struggling with Alzheimer’s, foster kids for COBYS, then helping people with mental disabilities have a more fulfilling life. She most recently completed her third year as part of a wonderful team of people at Manorcare. As a first generation immigrant to the US, she took nothing and no one for granted and worked hard for everything she had, and was happy to do so.
Food was one of her loves. She loved getting together with friends to drink daiquiris and eat crabs. She loved her mother’s Thai cooking and super hot food. She put her heart into everything she did often showing her loved by baking wonders for others, like her carrot cake. All was right in the world when she would go to the beach, then her family would stuff themselves at the Bonfire restaurant.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, James J Dougherty III and the treasure of her life, her son Jimmy, and by her mother, Bunloo (Ann) Wilson and her beloved sister, Sirintorn (Sara), wife of Bill Andrews and mother of Mum’s nephews Preston and Aaron.
The family would like to express our everlasting gratitude to loved ones who have been so gracious with their care for our family during these trying months. Our dear friends and coworkers at Fulton Bank and the wonderful people at Manorcare and St. Joseph’s church have all showed us all the love and compassion that Christ demonstrated. We thank Dr. Kane and the other members of the Lancaster Cancer Center and Hospice and Community Care for their sensitive care for Mum in the worst of her moments. In lieu of flowers, please support a charity that helps those most in need.
There will be a Mass in celebration of her life at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603 celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Smith on Thursday June 20th at 6:30PM. The family will receive guests beginning at 5:00PM preceding the Mass at 6:30. There will be a party to celebrate her life in St. Joseph’s Hall immediately following the Mass. She will be interred in a private ceremony the following day. To send an online condolence, please visit www.SnyderFuneralHome.com. Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 717-872-5041

God bless you Jim and Jimmy. Mum was so much fun! We lived in Lancaster a short time and Mum watched my son Joseph after school. We became fast friends and even took our boys out as our dates for Valentines day. I’m so sorry to hear she passed so young. May she rest in the peace of Christ until we all meet again. Hello to Jimmy and Jim from Joseph and Krista Kelly.
My deepest sympathy on the loss of Mum. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mum in the deli department at Weis Markets many years ago, and she was such a delight to work with. Her free spiritted attitude was such an inspiration to me. Please know that her spirit will always be with you. God Bless you.

To Jim and Family – I am sorry for the loss of such a beatiful person on the
inside and out. I remember the first time I met Mum at a Fulton function at the Fulton Opera House and from the moment I spoke with her I felt as if I knew her for years. I would often look forward to Fulton events that I knew you were going to be present to have a chance to chat with her. Mum was also a wonderful support to my mom who oversees my great aunt’s affairs who is a resident at Manor Care. I will continue to pray for family and may you find comfort that Mum will always be with you – a beautiful angel watching over you. God Bless You. /jody valenzo

Spring Poem
Spring is like a warm and aromatic breeze.
Colored foliage, wet and warming a new beginning.
Hearing music outdoors.
Hearing doves "Coo"
Nature’s Gifts
The leaves rustle through the trees.
The brook is flowing with ease.
The mountains are majestic in size and beauty.
Trees are the largest plant in stance.
Month Of May Poem
May is for birds.
May is for flowers.
May is for blue skies.
May is for the green grass,
That is soft and ticklish on my feet.
A Unique and Super Lady
That special and beautiful one in your arms is a comforting and tender feeling you wish could last forever.
The bond and power of a king holding his queen is a rare beauty in a world of heartache and pain.
When someone comes along that you understand and they understand you, it is unique and doesn’t happen very often.
A Part Of My Life
You get more beautiful each day and I feel blessed to have you in my life and spend time with you.
You see things in me that others do not.
I thank you for your understanding, humor and many other qualities you add to my life.
