I only saw and chatted with Anne at the many Christmas season celebrations at the Shoemaker home in Lancaster. Anne is a good conversationalist, has an enjoyable personality, and could make a person feel welcome and intelligent. Quite the gift, I thought.

It was my great pleasure to share a book group with Anne during my last years of living in Lancaster. Our meetings and dinners were always a delight warmed by her infectious smile and kind heart. She was a light to the greater community of Lancaster and will be greatly missed. Jan Eastman

To Duncan, Stephen, and David,
I first knew Anne when she was working at the YWCA and as women working in the field of communications and public relations. We were both members of the local chapter of the Public Relations Society. I worked for the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry during part of this time and later I went to work for Earl Hess, chairman and president of Lancaster Laboratories, where Anne also worked. For a number of years we both were on Earl’s staff, Anne as his assistant and me as then director of communications. We became even better friends and associates and later, when we were retired, we continued to have lunch together frequently. Still later we were both members of one of Anne’s book groups that met monthly. Anne was a loyal friend I could always count on. We were both natives of Georgia, but I’m not sure whether and how that played a role in our relationship although I think it did in a way even if it was just in being soft-spoken and having some other similar personality characteristics. I will remember her, as I said, as a loyal friend I could always count on.

To the Osborn Family, I served on the YWCA Board with Anne many years ago. She was a strong, focused, intelligent woman who supported the good work of the YW to eliminate racism and empower woman. She was a friend and mentor and made a differnce in our community. I am sorry for your loss.
